For those of you who know me, it is not surprising that my two best friends, Marla and Janet, are mad dancers. I noticed Marla right away because she was a dance-every-dance dancer like me. Years ago, when I was still liv- ing in Seattle, I was on an outing to Snohomish. I hadn't planned to go to the outdoor market, but when I saw the sign, I did. I roamed around the tables and booths, stopping occasion- ally to chat with the vendors. I stayed a pretty long time at one booth, par- ticularly charmed by the owner. Her name was Marla. When I left, I had her business card, and I was touched by a bejeweled angel necklace she gave me. Years, I mean YEARS later, I was dancing at Silly Al's Pizza in Quartzsite, AZ, and I wasn't the only one. There was another mad dancer on the fl oor. She was energetic, wild, and unique! She danced by herself and obviously didn't care what peo- ple thought. Neither did I. Although she was young enough to be my daughter (GASP!), we hit it off right away. She called me her "friend," not her mother. My ego soared! We immediately realized we were kindred spirits, amazing what we had in common. We both don't seem to care what society thinks what we SHOULD be doing, and I'm sure politically we are on the same page. Health is very important: we're into exercise and both eat organ- ic. We take good care of ourselves 'cause that allows us to live the lives we want....to live 100% right now. Beside our obsession with dancing (..."in a way not to make a show but the way it makes us feel and moves through us," Marla), we both had just spent more than a month in Austra- lia, we loved to read, we cherish our alone time, we're very independent, and we lack fear; WE LIVE! . by Jane Finley writer * artist * teacher (stretching, exercise, relaxation, meditation) Marla & Me 2/27/07) Quartzsite, AZ Marla is also into exercise. She lives on a houseboat in Canada and KAYAKS back and forth to her home. Did I mention that she offered to in- stall my toilet and fi x the fi berglass my RV? She can also repair her car, among other things. MEN...haha! Marla sez: "I want a gooder, just not to be around all the time." No marriage; no living togeth- er; no kids. DITTO! I don't know when or how I real- ized that Marla was the same person I met in Snohomish years and years ago. When I suspected it, I went home, searched through my memory box, and found her card. The angel necklace was right there where I left it more than 20 years ago. I wore the necklace dancing that night. I couldn't wait for her to see it. She recognized it right away and said, "Is that one of mine?" We both just stood there while the reality sunk in. Then we gave each other a gigantic hug! (Marla wrote this month from Aus- tralia: "I'm picturing us chatting. I can feel our excitement due to our connection.) 401 W. Hobsonway Blythe, CA 760-922-2126 160-B E.
