QIA receives special quilt By Joanne Winer Although their 50th anniversary was last year, the Quartzsite Improvement Assoc. (QIA) last week was presented with a special t-shirt quilt that was origi- nally planned for their 50th but had to be postponed. The quilt was the idea of Paul Winer, who thought that the Q.I.A. had done so much for the town and for all the winter visitors who use the facilities for their entertainment and special events. Paul and Joanne decided that they would collect all the t-shirts and pay for all the materials needed to work on the quilt, and asked the Quartzsite Alliance Church Quilt Group if they would do the quilting for the project that was to be donated to the Q.I.A. The quilt group meets every Thursday at the Al- liance Church, and many of the ladies volunteered to work on this project. They did a tremendous job of cutting out all the logos and designs from the fronts of the t-shirts, ironing on backing so they wouldn't stretch, and putting the squares together to make a wonderful memory for everyone to enjoy. It will hang on one of the walls in the main hall at the Q.I.A. this coming season and will be a permanent display there. It was unveiled recently at a special Sunday presentation with many of the ladies who worked on it in attendance. Several members of the Q.I.A. board were there to accept the gift, and both Paul and Joanne stated that they felt the Q.I.A. was such an important part of the winter season here and that the volunteers who work there are so important to the organization, and therefore to the town itself. Without all the volunteers to do the work, the Q.I.A. would not be able to function, and there would be no place for the activities that are held there. Even with all the people they have working, they really need more to keep up with the demands of the many activities people enjoy, so if you have some spare time, this is one place that can really use some help, especially during the Pow Wow. Joanne stated that although she and Paul had been members of the Q.I.A, ever since they came in 1991, they are so busy with working and other commitments that they have not had the time to volunteer for the Q.I.A., so this is their way of saying thank you for all that the Q.I.A. has done, not just for them (as hosts for the annual Spaghetti dinner for the Gardens every year) but for the whole community, and so they really wanted the Q.I.A. to know how much they are appreci- ated by everyone. A very special thanks to the ladies of the Quilt group at the Alliance Church who did such a fantastic job or creating this masterpiece--you really did a wonderful thing and it will be seen by so many people!! The quilt will be stored in an air conditioned room over the summer, but will be hung as soon as they get back in the fall and get the brackets up. Be sure to look for it next time you go to the Q.I.A. this fall. | S RAIN G-B | S RAIN G-B Read Desert MESSENGER ONLINE @ www.MyQuartzsite.com
