The Quartzsite Police Department was awarded a new Toughbook 31 by the Arizona Auto Theft Author- ity (AATA). The Ruggedized Lap- top Computer will be put to use in conjunction with an in car License Plate Reader. The Quartzsite Police Department recently submitted a grant for 2017 Funding to AATA and was awarded the computer from the 2017 grant funding. Offi cer H. Tanakeyowma worked extensively since 2014 to assist the department in updating and obtaining equipment through lo- cal and federal grants. Offi cer H. Tanakeyowma wrote the grant for the laptop which was recently awarded to the department. In 2015 Ofc. H. Tanakeyowma wrote another grant to AATA and was awarded the License Plate Read- er. The license plate reader used by Quartzsite Police Department is the only unit in the county thus far. The License Plate Reader will aid in locating stolen vehicles pass- ing through the Town of Quartzsite and La Paz County. As of February 15th, the Quartzsite Police Department has been very successful since the inception of this program. The department's use of this equipment has allowed us to locate several stolen vehicles: to include a semi-truck and trailer from Yuma, and a stolen vehicle out of Tennessee. We have also lo- cated stolen license plates from sur- rounding areas. The License Plate Reader is on the Traffi c Vehicle seen around town, which too was acquired through a grant. The Ari- zona Auto Theft Authority and the Quartzsite Police Department in a collaborative effort are combating vehicle theft in our community. The Quartzsite Police Department would like to thank the Auto Theft Authority for its dedication to the Quartzsite Police Department and the people of Arizona for doing their part in auto theft prevention, and recovery.
