Alpha Xi Kitchen Project Update K a n s a s s i g Spring 2017 A P u b l i c a t i o n o f S i g m a C h i F r a t e r n i t y a t t h e U n i v e r s i t y o f K a n s a s B rothers, as you may be aware, this summer we put in a new kitchen at 1439 Tennessee. The original kitchen had not been updated since the '60s, and it had needed an overhaul for several years. Brothers Jim Handy '81 and Lloyd Doolittle '68 worked together to design and manage the project, which took several weeks. W. Lawrence "Larry" Pfeiffer '71 has been named to the Order of Constantine for meritorious service to alpha Xi. Larry has served alpha Xi in a number of capacities since his graduation in 1971. He currently serves as president of the alpha Xi of sigma Chi Educational Foundation, has served on the House Corporation Board as its treasurer and risk management advisor, chaired fundraising campaigns supporting various renovations and our mortgage debt payoff, and assisted with recruitment for several years. Larry also served as the president of the greater Kansas City sigma Chi alumni Chapter. Larry becomes only the 10th alpha Xi alumnus to receive this award. Kevin Harlan '82 has been named a 2017 significant sig. Kevin is a distinguished broadcast journalist for CBs and Turner television networks. He is renowned for his coverage of nFL football, nBa basketball, and nCaa basketball. He began his career as the radio/ television voice of the Kansas City Kings at the age of 22. He called basketball for KU's radio network and spent nine seasons as the radio voice of the Kansas City Chiefs. He also provided play-by-play for MU football and basketball. He becomes the 34th alpha Xi alumnus to receive this recognition. Both of these brothers will be recognized at a banquet on June 24 during the grand Chapter meeting in Providence, R.i. in Hoc, Doug Miller '71 doug@mhkcpas.com S hortly after the spring semester started, Martha "Marty" Lee announced to the chapter and House Corporation Board this would be her last semester as housemother. Marty began her tenure at 1439 Tennessee in 2006, and during the next 11 years, she has been the de facto mother to more than 300 young men. if you want to include parents, that number moves to over 1,000 people. Most of us would never remember that many faces, but if you are one of the 300 young men and have visited the house since you graduated, you know Marty remembers your name.
