Learning is greatly enhanced when students are encouraged to explore new ways of doing things and are given new opportunities to learn in a supportive and encouraging environment of free-flowing ideas. What advice do you have for fellow educators in the career college sector of higher education? I would advise fellow educators to uncover the various obstacles preventing students from achieving success and to encourage learners to believe they can improve their knowledge and skills, especially in pragmatic and practical application of learning. Finally, I would advise educators to always look for ways to improve their own knowledge and skills. Why are professional development and continuing education important to you? Professional development and continuing education are important to me as vehicles of change for education in the 21st century. We need a variety of skills to help current students see learning as an ongoing process with practical and immediate application in their lives. I want to be an example of lifelong learning and open to change as well as new, effective ideas. What's one thing you think career education leaders can do to improve institutional performance? Career educators should learn to embrace, lead and manage the rapid pace of change. We need to create more professional development and continuing education opportunities to foster curiosity and analytical thought processes, which results in better ways to address today's challenges and prepare for those on the horizon. We need effective change to become part of the process of improving institutional performance and helping our students succeed. CHEP Certification The CHEP certification is awarded by the National Association of State Administrators and Supervisors of Private Schools (NASASPS), an association of state regulatory agencies that govern private postsecondary education in the U.S. The CHEP certification recognizes employees of career schools, colleges and universities who strive for excellence in their respective positions with the ultimate goal of enabling institutions to develop high- performing, compliant and ethical employees to better serve students. CHEPs have successfully completed 48 hours of approved training in their area of concentration and are required to complete eight hours of approved training annually to maintain their certification.
