"Bud" Thompson Jr. '61 entered Chapter Eternal on November 19, 2016. During his years in the United States Marine Corp, he served in the infantry and was selected as a member of the Presidential Guard to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bud was also selected as a member of the elite Marine Corps Silent Drill Team and traveled extensively throughout the United States and in his last year of service he served as the Color Bearer of the USMC Battle Colors. Bud received an honorable discharge from the USMC followed by four years as a Marine Corps reservist while attending Mississippi State University and graduating with a degree in secondary education. Bud went on to coach football and teach mathematics in Vicksburg, Miss. In his career, he worked with his son, Jim, at their firm, Insurance Solutions of Mississippi. Bud was also a public servant in many capacities, serving the Boy Scouts of America for 52 years, various committee boards, and as president of the Choctaw Area Council. He received the Silver Beaver Award, was named an Eagle Class Honoree, served two terms as the president of the North Meridian Optimist Club, was the first recipient of the Golden Circle Award, was named Citizen of the Year in 2009 by the Meridian Star, Boss of the Year in 1980, inducted into the Meridian Community College Hall of Fame and the MSU Insurance Hall of Fame, received the Hartley Peavey Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence in 2011, and received an honorary doctorate of public service from his beloved Mississippi State University in May 2016. Bud is survived by his high school sweetheart, Sue Smylie, whom he was married to for 61 years; three children, Elease, Jim, and Russell; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Bill I. Ware '62 entered Chapter Eternal on January 16, 2017. After graduating from MSU, he received his commission in the Air Force and became a B-52 pilot serving during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Air Force in 1970, Bill joined the MS Air National Guard, where he served until retirement in 1994. After retiring, Bill sold real estate. His volunteer activities included reading for the blind, teaching people to read, as well as volunteering at Rankin Hospital and the Space A desk at the Guard and the Jackson Municipal Airport. He also was a Scout Master of Troop 29 and served on the Scout Committee. He received the Silver Beaver award in 1989 from the Andrew Jackson Council. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cynthia Ware; three children, Anna (Marty) Young, Ivan W. (Kay) Ware, and Clint E.(Cheri) Ware; sister, Diane (Tom) Denton; and six grandchildren, Karley Ware, Katie Ware, Audrey Young, Cara Ware, Wesley Ware, and Courtney Ware. Dudley W. Casey '63 entered Chapter Eternal on December 14, 2016, in Roswell, Ga., at the age of 78. He battled a cancerous stomach mass and was being treated at the VA hospital in Atlanta. Dudley spent time in the U.S. Navy and eventually went AluMNi News (Continued on page 4)
