TheNorthValleyHealth Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corpora- tion established in 1973, is accepting scholarship ap- plications for the 2017-2018 school year. Due to recent emergency situations throughout the north state, the application deadlinehasbeenextended through March 7 to allow students affected by the evacuations to get the nec- essary documents together. The foundation proudly gives scholarships to stu- dents who have an inten- tion of returning to North- ern California to pursue a career in a medical related field. Arrests ThomasElyBower:42, of Red Bluff was arrested Saturday in the 100block of South Main Street and booked into Tehama County Jail on the charge of battery on non-cohabitating former spouse. Bail was $5,000. Evaristo Ortiz-Banderas: 54, of red Bluff was arrested Monday at Walmart and booked into jail on the charge of buying or receiving known stolen vehicle. Assist Luther Road: Tehama County Sheriff's Department logs show an assist with an occupied stolen vehicle about 3:40a.m. Monday at Walmart. Burglary Cowles Avenue: Items were taken from a garage during a burglary to the residence reported Monday. Collisions Pueblo Pointe South of Oakridge Drive: Two people received minor injuries, but only Brenda Griffin, 54, of Corning was transported to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital following a colli- sion about 8:30a.m. Sunday in Rancho Tehama. Michael Dockins, 46, of Corning said he would seek his own aid. Griffin was backing out of a residence and pulled directly into the path of Dockins who rear-ended the vehicle. Campo Road at San Benito Avenue: Benjamin Galspy, 33, of Gerber was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital with minor injuries following a collision about 6:30p.m. Sunday in which Francine Glenn, 63, of Pro- berta was traveling west on Campo as Galspy approached headed north on San Benito. Glenn reportedly stopped at the intersection before pull- ing directly in front of Galspy. Disturbance Lay Avenue: A fight be- tween a man and a woman in which one involved party re- portedly broke a window was reported about 11:45p.m. Monday. Mekael Da'Sean Dove, 24, of Red Bluff was cited and released on the charge of battery. Red Bluff Police contacted him about an hour later in the area of Kevin's Donuts on South Main Street where he was arrested and booked into Tehama County Jail on the charge of disorderly conduct: alcohol. No bail was set. Belle Mill Road: A woman reported a disturbance about 8p.m. Sunday in which two men reportedly came into her residence at Antelope Homewood Mobile Park armed with handguns and began battering her brother and other residences. The two men are described as being one heavy set with a crew cut and the other being a man with dark hair, wearing a tan jacket. Fire Southbound Interstate 5 off-ramp at Bowman Road: A vehicle fire was reported at 11:26a.m. Monday. It was contained at 11:37a.m. The cause is under investigation. Suspicious Corning: Multiple reports were received between 2 and 4p.m. Monday of men walking around soliciting cleaning services and at a Colusa Street residence one man reportedly stole something from the mailbox and put it in his pocket. When asked about pa- perwork they did not have a business license. One person reported it as suspi- cious due to the man com- ing to the rear door of the business and asking about employee vehicles and the number of employees the business has. Another in- cident was reported about 6p.m. Monday with the suspects associated with a white van. The report- ing party said a neighbor told her the suspects had asked if they had dogs and how many children they had. The vehicle was last seen headed west on Solano Street. A report was received of similar suspects in a gold or beige Chevy suburban in the Gerber area near Truckee and Gyle Road was received about 12:45 p.m. Saturday. Luther Road: Someone re- ported two men were trying to cut a lock on the back of the new Walmart about 1:45 p.m. Monday before they got into a red Nissan Maximum with a white front end and no plate that le on Reeds Avenue. Johnson Street: A man was reportedly kicked out of a residence due to drug paraphernalia being found and it was reported that he told a woman to contact him when the other person living at the residence went to bed so he could come back and burglarize the place. The s Williams Avenue: The cur- rent year registration tab on the back of a vehicle was taken. Via Hermosa cross of Via Ventura: A generator belonging to a construction company was taken. Washington Street: A Red Bluff resident reported that their vehicle had been broken into for the second time. Crestview Drive: Seven solar panels were stolen from a rental. Vandalism Solano Street: A front door was broken at the Corning Skate and Bike Supply. Madison Street: A Red Bluff business reported a window broken out Sunday evening. Kaer Avenue, Berrendos Avenue: Multiple reports were received of vehicles that had windows broken out between Sunday and Monday. JellysFerryRoad,nearIn- terstate5: A woman reported four of her vehicle's six win- dows had been broken out. Paynes Creek Road: A vehicle in front of a Red Bluff residence had a window broken out. Police Logs Rain began to fall about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night and continued the better partofthenight.At6o'clock Wednesday night the local weather bureau recorded a fallof.82ofaninch,making atotalrainfallfortheseason of 11.46 inches against 16.71 normal for the season. Many happy farmers, fruit raisers and stockmen could be found anywhere in Red Bluff Wednesday morningduetothiscopious downpour.Thissectionwas in need of rain and it came none too soon to save much of the winter sowed wheat and barley, and save more later crops. Copious rainfall saves crops in Tehama county This recipe for Cali-av- ocado steak salad is from www.BeefCookOff.org. 1 boneless beef top sir- loin steak, cut 1 inch thick (about pound) 6 teaspoons olive oil, di- vided teaspoon salt, divided teaspoon pepper, di- vided 1 large navel orange 1 large Fresh California Avocado 2 loaves naan bread, ( about 3 ounces each) 4 cups mixed salad greens 1. Rub both sides of beef steak with 1 teaspoon olive oil; sprinkle with tea- spoon salt and teaspoon pepper. 2. Cut bottom and top off orange. Remove remaining skin from orange; cut into segments; reserve. Cut avo- cado in half; remove pit, but do not peel. Squeeze juice from two cut ends of orange over cut sides of avocado, then brush with 1 teaspoon olive oil. Sprinkle with re- maining salt. 3. Brush both sides of naan bread with 2 tea- spoons olive oil. 4. Place steak on grid over medium, ash-covered coals. Grill, covered, 11-15 minutes over medium heat on preheated gas grill, cov- ered, 13-16 minutes for me- dium rare to medium done- ness, turning occasionally. During last 2-3 minutes of grilling, place avocado, cut side down, and naan bread on grill; turn bread once. 5. Meanwhile, toss salad greens with remaining ol- ive oil and pepper. Add orange segments to salad. Remove skin from grilled avocado. Cut avocado into slices; add to salad and toss gently. Carve steak into thin slices; place on top of salad. Cut naan into wedges; arrange around salad. Makes 2 servings. Total preparation and cooking time is 30 minutes.
