CONTRIBUTED PHOTO BY DEBBIE KING By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Performances of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" were held Fri- day in Redding and Satur- day in Red Bluff as a benefit for the newly formed Tehama County Sexual Assault Re- sponse Team, or SART, a col- laboration of community part- ners working to create a uni- fied team to respond to sexual violence in the community. "One-hundred percent of us actors are volunteers," said performer Natalie Peterson. "The stories we tell are real women's stories from around the world so we have cards to read off of so we can tell it and do the women's stories justice." "Tehama SART is proud to be the chosen recipient orga- nization for two benefit perfor- mances of Eve Ensler's award- winning play, 'The Vagina Monologues', presented by V- Day Tehama-Shasta, a local grassroots organization that is part of an international mis- sion to end violence against women and girls," said Car- olyn Walker, one of two pro- gram managers for the Te- hama SART team. "We are a team of multiple agencies in the community coming to- gether to make sure the vic- tims of violence in our commu- nity are taken care of. Thank you for your support. It means more than you could know." Lindsay Miller-Byrne, Te- hama SART Medical Fo- rensic Examiner Coordina- tor, said the need for a SART team in Tehama County was great as the job has been pri- marily filled over the last 10- 15 years by one nurse. When she was unavailable, the vic- tims needed to travel outside of the area, often as far as Sac- ramento, not eating or drink- ing and not able to shower or change their clothes until an exam had been performed and evidence collected.
