The result of the membership review was a reduction of active membership from 255 to 122, with 59 of the 255 moving to alumni status. The overall plan put forth by the AVC was embraced and applauded by the National Fraternity and university officials and is considered to be the blueprint for fraternities at OU going forward. One university officer stated that SigEp is "the tip of the sword." He also stated that all fraternities will be under similar reorganization and he only hopes—but doubts— others have a strong local alumni presence and a supportive National Fraternity organization to make radical member accountability changes, as we are making. One additional comment merits mentioning. The strikes we received closely followed the removal of the SAE chapter from the university. Many felt, from that action, that the university administration was anti-fraternity and would look for opportunities to remove chapters. Our experience proves that the university seeks to be a partner with fraternities in providing a great educational experience for the young men involved with the fraternity experience.
