Recently the Red Cross has been collaborating with the Salva- tion Army Thrift Store Team in Quartzsite to locate and sign-up families who need smoke detectors provided and installed for FREE. If your smoke detector is over 10 years old or you don't have one, sign up. "We Need You! Red Cross meeting Feb. 28th Parker, AZ—Sixteen students have qualifi ed for the La Paz County Spelling Bee competition to be held February 22, 2017, at the La Paz County Board of Supervisors Room. Eight schools have held offi cial school level contests which decided the champion and runner- up eligible for the County contest: • Bouse School District: Bouse Elementary • Parker School District: Le Pera Elementary, Wallace Elementary, and Wallace Jr. High • Quartzsite School District: Eh- renberg and Quartzsite Schools • Salome School District: Salome Elementary • Wenden School District: Wenden Elementary The champion of the County Spelling Bee will represent La Paz County at the 2017 Arizona State Spelling Bee to be held March 25th at the Arizona State University, Downtown Campus in Phoenix. The winner of the State contest will advance to the National con- test held in May in Washington, DC. La Paz County School Superinten- dent, Jacque Price, invites friends, family, and the public to come out and enjoy the 2017 County Spell- ing Bee Contest on Wednesday, February 22nd starting at 6:00 p.m. at the La Paz County Boardroom, located at 1108 Joshua Street in Parker, AZ. County Spelling Bee Feb. 22 Boat and motor show, sell and swap meet at the Quartzsite Im- provement Assoc. (QIA) is in conjunction with the Antique Out- board Motor Club's classic motor display March 11th & 12th. Come one, come all. No entry charge to spectators. Vendors are welcome. There will be juicy burg- ers, superb hot dogs, tasty rolls and donuts and other goodies. This show is for the public to have a chance of selling their unwanted boat and motor, buy a unit or just take a look at restored or original boats and motors that will surely bring back memories of past years. There will be twenty acres of po- tential display area and collectors from San Diego, Tucson, Phoenix, Havasu City and the surround- ing area have been invited. There will be dry camping on site Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights for $10 per night. Sales sites are $10 ea while display sites are free. (A site can show two boats.) The QIA is located at 235 Ironwood St. paralleling Main St. Watch for the outboard motors with Arrows. Hours are from 10 A to 5P. Want to participate? Bring your old motor and/or boat.
