Red Bluff FFA held its annual Mid Year Banquet Tuesday, Jan. 24 to recog- nize students who applied for their Greenhand De- gree, Chapter Degree and State Degree. Greenhand Degrees are awarded to first year FFA members who are regu- larly enrolled in a career technical education course in agriculture and must have an acceptable Super- vised Agriculture Expe- rience Project. Once the member holds a Green- hand Degree they are ap- plicable for the Chapter Degree which must have at least $150 dollars or 100 hours invested into their SAE project. The Red Bluff Chapter had 93 first year members receiving their Greenhand degree and 41 second year members receiving their Chapter Degree. Twenty-nine students applied for their State De- gree and were recognized at the ceremony for their work they put into their application. State appli- cations will be reviewed and scored by the state of- ficials, then the members will be awarded for their State Degree at a special ceremony at the Spring Regional Meeting held at Chico State. Along with degrees, stu- dents were able to apply for local proficiencies. Ranging from lawn management to animal production the chapter had 14 member rec- ognized for their proficien- cies in their SAE. Members and parents of the Red Bluff FFA had a memorable night celebrat- ing the hardworking mem- bers of the chapter. FUNDRAISER Dance to support Manton veterans memorial Considerable work has been done in a quiet way in Red Bluff the past sev- eral days to bring Com- pany H up to the required strength and save the orga- nization to the community. Brigadier General J. J. Bor- ree has been in correspon- dence with several of the citizens of the county, and is making what effort he can to save the company. The summary removal of Captain L. A. McCoy from command of Company H put a stop to all efforts in behalf of the company, as the act was resented by the men of the company as well as by the citizens of the community generally. It seemed a hopeless effort to attempt to reorganize the company under any other man, and this fact has been impressed upon Borree. But the reinstate- ment of Captain McCoy has removed this objec- tion, and hopes are again entertained that the com- pany may be saved. — Feb. 14, 1917 100 YEARS AGO...
