Upon arrival, officers located an AK-47 style ri- fle and two expended bullet casings in a driveway, according to the Corning Police Department. At the same location officers found metal knuckles and a pistol with a high capacity mag- azine, the department said. Officers were able to locate a suspect, whose name and age is being withheld as he was taken into custody on a mental illness hold. Criminal charges are being filed against the suspect re- garding the items found at the residence. The department is asking the public to report any activity that appears suspicious to dispatch- ers any time at 824-7000. In an emergency call 911. City Manager Richard Crabtree said the item was put on the agenda for the possibility of com- munity input on the matter, however no one came to the council meeting to comment. Staff received a request from a concerned res- ident to install a new stop sign at the intersec- tion west of Johnston Street. "There will be games, dinner, concessions and silent auction items avail- able for people to peruse," said Tehama County 4-H Administrative Assistant Spring Severson. "This event, hosted by Tehama County 4-H Council, con- tinues to be the only fun- draiser for the program." The evening, which will have a theme of American Roots: honoring our past, includes a special VIP hour 3-4 p.m. for seniors and disabled community mem- bers, Severson said. It al- lows them to get in and see the various booths before the event gets crowded. The main event is free to attend, and games are 25 cents each to make it af- fordable for families. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea told the press Thursday afternoon that the Sheriff's Office and Cal Fire-Butte County are preparing in case parts of Oroville and the surround- ing area have to be evac- uated because of the Lake Oroville spillway erosion. Although he doesn't an- ticipate having to evacu- ate, Honea said protect- ing the public means be- ing prepared for the worst. "I have assigned Sgt. Jack Storm to be in the command center. He will be monitoring the situa- tion to determine if there is some future need for evacuations due to flood- ing," Honea said. "If that's the case we have a mecha- nism in place at the Butte County Sheriff's Office to start dealing with that. That mechanism includes pulling patrol staff in to deal with that, as well as our volunteer auxiliary units including the Butte County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue."
