KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY page 3 COMMUNITY, LEADERSHIP KANSAS STATE Lifetime time, Dan embarked on his first year of teaching while Cheryl completed her undergraduate degree and student teaching. After their year serving as house parents for DC Kansas State, life became increasingly busy with advanced college degrees, work, and family. While Dan wasn't able to stay as engaged with Delta Chi over the years as much as he would have liked to, in recent years, he has had a few opportunities to reconnect with DC that he has thoroughly enjoyed—he hopes there will be more opportunities to reconnect in the future. For Dan, being an active member of DC helped him grow and mature, and taught him values, responsibility, and leadership skills that helped him become the person he is today. "It also taught me the importance of building relationships that last throughout a lifetime," he stated. "If I had to do it all over, I would choose Delta Chi again." Recently, Dan and Cheryl are traveling a great deal and enjoy seeing different places throughout the country and around the world. Dan also enjoys keeping up with K-State sports and McCain performances, golfing with friends at Colbert Hills, and being a grandpa and visiting their seven grandchildren, ranging from 1 to 15 years. Dan and Cheryl live in Manhattan, Kansas. If you would like to reconnect with Dan, he can be reached at dan.yunk@gmail.com. Brothers excel in PhilanthroPy, academics, and leadershiP Energized for Successful Spring Semester T he Kansas State Chapter is always striving to improve upon on all aspects of fraternity while promoting the values and standards of Delta Chi. We continue to make great strides in philanthropy, academics, and sustainable growth. Philanthropically Focused Our Hoops for Hope philanthropic event officially ended with the championship game hosted at the halftime of the basketball home opener. We look forward to continuing to grow the event and to keeping a strong relationship with the men's basketball coach, Bruce Weber, and the entire team. We ended the semester with our annual "Adopt-a-Child" community service project. In 2016, we received over $6,500 in gifts and monetary donations, and we've provided Christmas gifts for more than 400 children in the Manhattan community since we began this program. On the horizon, we will be hosting our annual Fish Fry with Theta Xi this spring and look forward to growing Hoops for Hope, Adopt-A-Child, and the Fish Fry even more for 2017! Academic Achievements The chapter recently finished first in the fraternity division of the new Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life Academic Tournament. Members of each organization submitted As and Bs for tests, projects, and papers. The grand prize is the ability to choose our fall Homecoming partners! We look forward to making our decision in the upcoming months. Wildcat Victory Leads to DC Brothers Lending a Hand We ended the home football season in November with a win against the Jayhawks. The chapter enjoyed interacting with alumni at our tailgate and, for the fifth year in a row, the chapter will have had a group of members travel to the bowl game. As well as experiencing our last home game, we ended our community service for the year in partnership with Kansas State Recycling. Members helped the recycling center with the aftermath of our victory. The chapter has collectively completed more than 1,300 hours of community service over the past year! Kansas State Chapter to Attend Leadership Conference Kansas State Chapter will attend the upcoming DX Regional Leadership Conference for Region IV, hosted by Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. We look forward to sharing our successes, learning from other chapters, and gaining knowledge to apply here at Kansas State. Parent, Alumni Support Essential to Chapter Success Finally, I would like to thank all the parents and loyal alumni for their continued support. Kansas State Chapter would not be where we are today without all of you. As we look toward the future, we realize the future successes of our chapter will not be possible without alumni and parent support. I encourage you to reengage with old friends and come visit your younger brothers in Manhattan. If you are ever in town or interested in finding out more about the undergraduate chapter, please feel free to reach out to me. Our door is always open.
