Mercy High's annual basketball homecoming will be held Friday, Jan 20. The four-game marathon against Burney will start at 3 p.m. starting with the ju- nior varsity girls, then var- sity girls, junior varsity boys and varsity boys. Homecoming court fes- tivities will be held between the junior varsity and var- sity boys games. Members of the Home- coming Court are king can- didates Noe Rodriguez, Dar- tagnan Kingwell, Connor Rooney, Marcus Kuchle and Jarrett Stickney and queen candidates Minji Park, Van- essa Arellano, Annie Feser, Mikaela Weber and Lina Gannon. Queencandidates Mikaela Weber is the daughter of Strawberry and Jim Weber. She has partic- ipated in football and bas- ketball cheer as well as swimming. Mikaela is ac- tive as Student Body Trea- surer and is involved in Key Club, as the vice president, and Fashion Club. She has performed in eight Mercy musicals and is looking for- ward to performing in Cin- derella this spring. Mikaela has generously done over 230 hours of community service, including counsel- ing, work at a blood drive, and work at a pet shelter. She has applied to Oregon State University, Univer- sity of Portland, University of Oregon, University of California Davis, and Uni- versity of California Santa Cruz. She hopes that major- ing in biology will allow her to study large marine ani- mals one day. Her interests include listening to music and reading. Lina Marie Gannon is the daughter of Daniela and Timothy Gannon. Lina has proudly been involved in gymnastics for 15 years and enjoys being a coach for young girls. She is cur- rently the Student Body Vice President and has been President of her class the last two years. Lina has also been involved in school musicals and swimming. She has applied to Stan- ford University, University of California Davis, Uni- versity of California Berke- ley, University of California Irvine, and University of California San Diego. Lina plans to study biomedical engineering in the hopes to attend medical school and eventually become a "tiny human doctor". Vanessa Rae Arellano is the daughter of Azalea Arel- lano. She is co-president of the Mercy Fashion Club and has participated in volley- ball, cheerleading, and two musicals, including Cinder- ella. Vanessa was a flower girl in the 2016 graduation and has enjoyed serving the community in places like the Red Bluff Commu- nity Center and the Discov- ery Center. She's applied to many colleges and is unde- cided on where to attend. Her dreams include becom- ing an elementary school teacher and studying cos- metology so she can open her own salon. Vanessa en- joys traveling, playing the fiddle, and spending time with friends and family, especially her Best Friend Five-ever, Annie Feser. Annie Elizabeth Feser is the daughter of J.J. Fe- ser and the granddaughter of Larry and Julie Feser. At Mercy Annie has played football, volleyball, basket- ball, softball, and cheered. She is currently the Stu- dent Body Secretary and co-president of the Fashion Club. Annie has also been involved in the Rap Club and Mercy's many musicals including Phantom of the Opera, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Cinderella. She's performed lots of community service ushering at the State The- atre, as a camp counselor, and altar serving. Though she's uncertain where she will attend, Annie has ap- plied to many schools. Her interests include meeting new people, making mem- ories with her BFF, Van- essa Arellano, drama, talk- ing, and watching Disney movies. Minji Park is the daugh- ter of Kyeonghee Kang and JeongGeon Park. She has been involved in many sports at Mercy including JV volleyball, cheerlead- ing, softball, and swim- ming. Minji has also par- ticipated in FFA, CSF, and the Rap Club, as well as performing in school mu- sicals like Phantom of the Opera and Monkey & Slave. She has served the commu- nity at the animal shelter, the Kiwanis booth, the Sa- cred Heart auction, and the Little Reno Night, among others. She plans to attend a university in Seoul, Ko- rea, where she hopes to fur- ther her studies in English. Eventually Minji would love to live in San Diego and become a philanthro- pist, serving the poor in Af- rica, the elderly, children, and stray dogs. She hopes to save money to fulfill her primary love of travel. King candidates Connor Rooney is the son of Monica and John Rooney. He has been class president his freshman year and vice president his ju- nior and senior years. Con- nor has also played tennis and been SVL champion in both 2014 and 2016. He has generously participated in community service includ- ing work at the veterans center, tutoring in Spanish, as well as service work in Thailand and the Domini- can Republic. Connor has applied to Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown, University of Southern Cal- ifornia, the United States Coast Guard Academy, and the United States Naval Academy where he would love to attend, though he's open to other options. De- pending on where he at- tends, he may study cyber security, international ser- vice, or Coast Guard oper- ations. Connor has been a Petty Officer Second Class in the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps and his ul- timate goal is to be a na- val Cryptologic Warfare Of- ficer. His interests include working out, snowboard- ing, sailing, rock climbing, guitar, and spending time with friends. Noe Rodriguez is the son of Maria Rodriguez. Noe has played football all four years at Mercy, basketball for two years, and soccer for one. He's been very ac- tive in community service, volunteering as an assis- tant coach for soccer, work- ing at school auction din- ners, and ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Noe has applied to Califor- nia State University Chico, California State Univer- sity San Marcos, and Cali- fornia State University San Bernardino. He's planning on attending Chico State or Butte College where he hopes to study kinesiology and become a physical ther- apist. Noe's hobbies include weight lifting, and beating his goal of a 415 lb. dead lift. Dartagnan Kingwell is the son of Linda and Vaughan Smith. His in- volvement at Mercy is strong in many ways. He has played football, bas- ketball, and baseball, and has participated in the Out- door Adventure Club and Key Club. Dart has worked as stage manager on many musicals including Phan- tom of the Opera, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Cinderella. He has applied to Grand Can- yon University and Oregon Institute of Technology, where he plans on going to study mechanical engineer- ing. He wants to design new things and own his own business. Dart's inter- ests include 4-H, archery, swimming, and hanging out with friends. Marcus Kuchle is the son of John and Kevil Kuchle. He enjoys swimming, track and field, and playing bas- ketball for Mercy. Marcus is the Student Body Presi- dent and has also been par- ticipating in CSF, Key Club, and has worked backstage in three musicals. He has applied to California State University Chico and Ore- gon State University where he plans on attending. There he plans to study re- newable energy engineer- ing, hoping to work toward creating new forms of clean energy to make the world a better place. Marcus' inter- ests include watching nerdy TV shows and hanging out with friends. Jarrett Stickney is the son of Cindy and Erik Stick- ney. Jarrett participates in Mercy football and basket- ball. He has also been in- volved in the Outdoor Ad- venture Club and Key Club, as well as worked on the school musicals, including Willy Wonka and the Choc- olate Factory and, most re- cently, Cinderella. Jarrett has applied to Grand Can- yon University, California State University North- ridge, California State Uni- versity Dominguez Hills, and Oregon Institute of Technology, where he plans to attend. There he is hop- ing to study medical imag- ing so he can become an x- ray technician. He enjoys hanging out with friends, playing video games, ar- chery, and enjoys being a member of the Boy Scouts of America.
