Candidates Night The Tehama County Patriots is having the second in a series of Candidates Nights at its weekly meeting at 6 p.m. today. The candidates speaking will be Dana L. Hollmer, incumbent treasurer and tax collector, Melvin Freimuth, Board of Supervisors District 3, Ken Miller, candidate for governor, and Scott Scheid, representa- tive for Meg Whitman, who is also a candidate for gov- ernor. Candidates will be asked how the office for which the candidate is running relates to the Tehama Coun- ty Patriots' values of limited government, fiscal responsibility and adherence to the Constitution and how each candidate would implement the oath of office. The group meets at the Trinity Landmark Mission- ary Church, 20920 Hampton Rhodes Drive, off Pasken- ta Road. Kindergarten roundup Reeds Creek School will be registering kindergart- ners for the 2010-2011 school year from 3:15- 4:30 p.m. on Thursday April 1 in room 1. Children must be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2, 2010 to be eligible for enrollment. Parents registering children should bring their child's birth certificate, report of health examination for school entry, social security card and immunization records. The kindergarten teacher and the county school's nurse will be available to help fill out the forms and answer any question you may have. For questions about the registration process, parents can call Reeds Creek School at 527-6006 between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Adoption meeting The Department of Social Services, Health and Human Services Agency, will be holding an adoption information meeting at 7 p.m. March 22 at 520 Cohas- set Road, Ste. 100, Chico. Information, call 895-6143. Cottonwood Watershed The Cottonwood Creek Watershed Group Board meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, at 3645 Main St. in Cottonwood. Richfield recycle drive Please donate all of your aluminum cans and recy- clable plastic bottles during March benefiting the Gar- cia family to help with expenses relating to Elvis' acci- dent. Items can be sent to Richfield Elementary School with a student or by calling Melissa at 824-6260 for acceptance of any recycles or a monetary donation. The class with the most items collected will win a Round Table Pizza party in the classroom. Antelope kindergarten Antelope kindergarten registration will be held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 14. Please bring child's immu- nization record, birth certificate, proof of physical and dental exam if available and proof of physical address in the district. Democrats Coffee Klatch The public is invited to the Tehama County Democ- ratic Central Committee's first Coffee Klatch of the season, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at 1015 Lakeside Drive #3 on the river behind Food Max in Red Bluff. Corning Recreation classes It's not too late to register for Corning Recreation's Mommy N' Me and Music in Motion classes. Register before Wednesday. • Mommy N' Me (0-4yrs) — Caregiver or parent and child enjoy the excitement of rhythm, movement, bal- ance, singing, pretend and props. Wear comfortable clothes. • Music N' Motion (2-4yrs) - Creative dance with a fun and exciting theme each week. Rhythm, movement, coordination, fine motor skills, pretend, props and dress up. Boys wear comfortable clothing that's easy to move in. Girls may wear dance leotards, tights and tutus. Princesses need ballet slippers and tap shoes. Prince Charming need tennis shoes and tap shoes. • Youth Tennis League (8-13 years) Learn the game of tennis in the Corning Recreation Youth Tennis League. The league promotes team work, sportsman- ship, self-esteem and determination. Your child will thrive playing the game of tennis with peers. We play with a foam ball so all kids are successful. Kids will receive a racket, t-shirt and membership to USTA. Reg- istration deadline is April 2. Volunteer coaches are needed. The league is held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 13 -May 18, at Corning High School. Cost is $35. Pasadena Pepper Steak Joan Martinson, of Northern California Farm Credit, shares her recipe for New York steaks. Pasadena Pepper Steak 2 14 oz New York steaks 1/2 cup green onion tops, the green part coarsely chopped 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper 4 bacon strips, fried and chopped 2 teaspoons cooking oil Broil the steaks over hot mesquite coals to desired doneness. At the same time, sauté the green onion tops, black pepper and bacon bits in cooking oil. Put sautéed ingredi- ents over the steaks and serve immediately. Joan suggests a creamy coleslaw and potato fries with these steaks.
