There's still no rain in sight with this dry northwest fl ow. At this rate, we'll have our fi rst Winter type of storm before a solid rainfall. The only good news is at least temps are coming down to normal levels now, after a record setting warm Summer and Fall so far. Get ready for the fi rst freeze of the season by Sunday morning. The Center's Great Hall will be the site for this spe- cial event. Michelle Garey, Earl Scruggs Center Board member, said "Bryon Mc- Murry (banjo) and Billy Car- dine (slide guitar and dobro) are best known in our region for their band Acoustic Syn- dicate, whose unique blend of rock and bluegrass music combined with thought-pro- voking lyrics is a local sen- sation. Collectively, Bryon and Billy have performed at Farm Aid, Bonnaroo, Merle- fest, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and the Ryman Audi- torium, just to name a few. Like Earl Scruggs, whose memory the Earl Scruggs Center honors each day, Bryon and Billy are amaz- ingly talented musicians who have taken their instruments to new heights through in- novation and experimenta- tion. Expect to hear some Scruggs classics as well as original, modern arrange- ments. As the title of one of Billy's recent albums suggests, the music will be "looking forward as well as looking back." What a treat! We are so excited to offer this experience at the Earl Scruggs Center! We believe events like this remind us of the rich musical history of our community, while showcasing current talent to celebrate and enjoy. Please join us on November 18!" This standing room only event will provide a social hour and opportunity for guests to meet McMurry and Cardine between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Newgrass Brewing Company and The String Bean are partnering with the Earl Scruggs Center to provide food and beverag- es for sale during the event. Music begins at 7:00 pm. McMurry, a Cleveland County na- tive, said "The fact that we have in our town an estab- lishment that will forever im- mortalize the soul and spirit of a true musical visionary who infl uenced every banjo player from his time forward is truly amazing. It's some- thing I am proud to be a part of. For most banjo players, it always comes back to the Scruggs roll." Following the event, guests may want to continue the evening with a visit to New- grass Brewing Company. Event admission $5.00. Standing room only (no seat- ing). Food and beverages will be available for purchase. For details or to pur- chase tickets go to www. EarlScruggsCenter.org or visit Earl Scruggs Center Guest Services during regu- lar operating hours. This performance is made possible by the generous do- nation of a private supporter of the Earl Scruggs Center. The Center is free to Cleveland County residents with valid ID on Wednesdays. Regular hours of operation are Wednesday 10 am-6 pm, Thursday – Saturday 10 am – 4 pm and Sunday 1 pm – 5 pm.
