Tyson Rd. in Quartzsite By Maggie Ross This has been an amazing week for our Thrivent Action Teams. Several weeks ago we met with Quartzsite Elementary School staff and we asked them to identify areas of need that could use some real help. The school emergency clothes closet, the special education class, school supplies and shoes for some of the students were the four that we decided to focus on. Working with some marvelous teacher's aides and other staff from the school, and four separate Action Teams made up of ladies from Covenant Lutheran Church and Community Bible we were able to provide the school with $1,000.00 worth of needed items. We must also thank the husbands and a young man from our church for loading and delivering all the items. We had seven huge plastic tubs full of goodies ranging from 45 pairs of new tennis shoes and cloth- ing, to footballs, basketballs, play dough, paints and brushes to special games, toiletry items such as kleen- ex, wipes and hand sanitizer, piles of school supplies and much more. The smiles and joy it brought to all of us as well as working together in our teams was the most amazing experience of all. I am grateful to all my volunteers and their desire to pass it forward in this commu- nity. In the meantime, we have received approval of several other Action Team projects. We will be helping with an Action Team to help the new younger 4-H group that is just forming called the Cloverbuds to purchase craft supplies and mate- rials for their meetings as well as items needed for potential partici- pation at the County Fair which will be in March. Another team contributed funds and supplies to help with the Haunted House that the Quartzsite Youth Council is preparing and team members will be participat- ing in the Quartzsite Halloween party being held at the Community Center on October 29th, for all Quartzsite youth.
