News The Arizona Peace Trail, Inc. applied to the Arizona State Parks Off-Highway Vehicle Program for a grant to fund the development of a master plan for the Arizona Peace Trail, an OHV loop trail between Bullhead City and Yuma. The Arizona Outdoor Recreation Coor- dinating Committee, the third of four review levels, met on October 26 to review all the fall 2016 grant applications to the State Parks for OHV funds. The Arizona Peace Trail grant application was approved for $200,000 by a unanimous vote. Just one more review by the Arizona State Parks Board and if approved by them the Master Plan will be initiated soon. Arizona Peace Trail updates Quartzsite Museum Seeks Visitors and Volunteers Exciting things have been happening at the Quartzsite Museum. During the last year, a generous series of grants from the Arizona Historical Society were awarded to upgrade the computer servers and install museum qual- ity software. The new software is being used to record, photograph and inventory artifacts, photos and books that have been donated over the years. This fall the last phase of the upgrade is being completed and volunteers have started entering the data into the computers. Last year the skeleton of the 47-arm cactus was donated and transported to the museum grounds. This fall volunteers will be working on cleaning, preserving and erecting this well- known relic of our past. At the end of last season the ambitious addition of a new wing to the museum was completed, which replicates the Oasis Hotel sleeping room during the early 19¬¬¬00's. A few additional features and expanded displays will be worked on this season. During the coming season, new docents will be taking over the day to day greeting responsibili- ties and volunteers plan to continue participat- ing in the Hi Jolly Parade bake sale and to again represent the Historical Society and Museum at the Big Tent. The season also promises monthly fi eld trips that are led by local volunteers. The Museum is operated through a stipend from the Town of Quartzsite, donations, book sales, fundraising and Historical Society mem- bership fees. Visiting the Quartzsite Museum is free, although donations are always welcome. Seasonal hours are Wednesday through Sun- day, 10 to 4. The Museum is located at 161 Main Street (parking is in rear). The Historical Society, which operates the Quartzsite Museum, is seeking new volunteers to help with the ongoing programs. Skills and preferences will be matched with responsibili- ties. Snowbirds are welcome! Please call us at (928)927-5229. Historical Society updates
