Mu Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi 3 H aving pledged the Tau Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi at Stan- ford in 1950, Jack Seeley '51 was already well-adapted to the values and traditions of the fraternity when he transferred to UW the following year. "e men of Alpha Sigma Phi were friendly, welcoming, and truly made you feel like you were part of a big family," he says. "Any time I got to hang out with brothers was guaranteed to be a blast, whether it was attending Huskies football games, sorority exchanges, campus activities, or even just sitting around talking about various subjects. ese experiences allowed me to branch out socially and academically, and helped me be successful throughout college." With Mu Chapter's capital campaign underway, Jack saw this as an opportunity to secure a future for Alpha Sigma Phi and ensure the Chapter continues its reign of excellence. A zealous member in Alpha Sigma Phi, Jack served as social chair- man, recruitment chairman, and alumni relations chairman, which involved organizing an annual get-together for Mu Chapter and Al- pha Sigs from other chapters. e important life skills and leadership that Mu Chapter provided Jack paved the way for much of his person- al and professional success. is made him realize how important it is for current and prospective members to have the same resources he F or more than 170 years, Al- pha Sigma Phi has challenged promising young men to strive for greatness in all aspects of life, in- cluding Charlie Conner '75. "I was sold on the fraternity from the very beginning," he says. "e members' friendliness, integrity, campus in- volvement, academic success, and leadership were impressive. Alpha Sigma Phi gave me the opportunity to become something bigger than my- self, and I am thankful for the mem- ories and friendships I gained in the Chapter." ese life-changing experi- ences inspired Charlie to give back to the place that gave him so much and make the dream of providing a safe, modern facility a reality. During his undergraduate years, Charlie enjoyed many college and Mu Chapter traditions, including pledge class retreats, golfing at Similk Beach, recruitment events at the houses of the late Warren Brown '74 and Dick Denman '47, ski trips, Chapter meetings, bath- ing in frosh pond, and Founders Day. "Alpha Sigma Phi helped me develop discipline and independence, and allowed me the opportuni- ty to develop meaningful connections with people of different back- grounds or interests. ese are values that our fraternity continues to uphold and it is my hope that future generations will have the same opportunities I had." As an alumnus, Charlie stays true to his Mu Chapter roots and maintains connections with Tor-Jan Ronho- vde '75, Wayne Wicker '76, Gordon Edgar '75, and Neal Shively '75. Be- cause Charlie knows an attractive, well-maintained Chapter House is a tremendous source of pride for un- dergraduates and alumni alike, sup- porting the campaign to renovate the Old Gal became an inherent part of who he is. Charlie has high hopes for the future of the fraternity and en- courages alumni to be a driving force in securing campaign success. "e Alpha Sigma Phi tradition runs deep in each and every one of us, and in order to preserve our fraternity we must step up to the plate, both actively and financially. A renovated fa- cility will allow Mu Chapter to continue attracting the highest-quality members and will provide an environment for brothers of all gener- ations to create new memories and friendships. Be a leader and help preserve Alpha Sigma Phi's legacy at UW." Charlie works as a developer and builder in the Puget Sound region and resides in Renton, Washington. When he is not hard at work, you'll like- ly find Charlie snowboarding, skiing, cycling, hiking, traveling, restor- ing classic vehicles, or spending time with his wife, Anne; daughters and sons-in-law, Alison and Mark and Madeline and Reed; and grandson, Calvin.
