IN MEMORIAM
M
arynell Dyatt Reece '41 entered
Chapter Eternal on July 4 at the age
of 96. She was fiercely devoted to her family
and an active participant in Reece Construction
Company, the business her husband started
in their hometown of Scandia, Kansas. She
served the local school board, was a lifelong
member and active worker in the United
Methodist Church in Scandia, a member of the
KU Endowment Association Board of Trustees,
and a member of numerous community and
philanthropic organizations. For her service,
she was named Kansan of the Year in 1991
and received both the Distinguished Service
Citation and the Ellsworth Medallion from KU.
The people of Kansas benefitted from her work
in politics as well. She was the Republican
National Committeewoman from Kansas
for many years and served in many national
campaigns, notably those of Senators Bob Dole
and Nancy Kassebaum Baker.
It would be impossible to fully summarize the
achievements and immense impact Marynell
had during her lifetime. At Sigma Chapter,
we are deeply grateful for her friendship and
decades of service on the House Corporation
Board. Her husband, Bill, and four Gamma Phi
daughters endowed a scholarship for Sigma
members, which is awarded every year.
It was a color explosion at an incredibly
successful Bid Day. Sisters were covered from
head to toe in color and glitter.
