THE TAXI NEWS ALPHA SIGMA CHAPTER OF THETA XI • BRADLEY UNIVERSITY FALL 2016 Undergraduates and Alumni Work Together to Improve Chapter House as a Whole I n the last newsletter, I shared with you a phrase my father would use quite often when I was growing up. With his words, "many hands make light work," I issued a call for all of our brothers to help with the undergraduate chapter and alumni association. The response from you has been nothing short of outstanding. We continue to receive donations of time, talent, and treasure toward the support of the undergraduate chapter and our scholarships. On behalf of the entire alumni board, thank you for all you have done and continue to do as proud members of the Alpha Sigma Chapter. I would like to update you on some of the accomplishments we have to celebrate. This summer, a group of dedicated alumni gave of their time to address some much-needed maintenance issues around the chapter house. Side by side with the actives, light fixtures and exit signs were replaced, new valves were installed under the kitchen sink, the outside bushes were trimmed, and the front porch was power washed, just to name a few of the projects. The actives then took it upon themselves to paint the front of the chapter house a fitting blue. Financially, there have been some noteworthy accomplishments as well. Our association issued the three largest scholarships in all of Theta Xi last year. In total, our scholarships accounted for 43% of the total scholarships issued by the Theta Xi Foundation. This feat was made possible by our generous donors and the fundraising efforts largely coordinated by brother Craig Janus '00; our Janus Scholarship Endowment fund has reached about $85,000. Brother Janus's contributions to maintain the financial stability of the chapter and alumni association have not gone unnoticed. This summer, he was elected to the Theta Xi Foundation Board of Trustees. I and other alumni association board members congratulate brother Janus and thank him for his continued service. Moving forward, the alumni association continues to support the undergraduate chapter through our monthly teleconference calls, management of the chapter property, and fiscal guidance. The chapter has been working closely with our board, Bradley University, and the National Headquarters staff to strengthen the undergraduate membership. There is still much work to be done, and your help is always appreciated and invaluable. With your continued support, and in light of our great strides over the past few years, I firmly believe that Alpha Sigma is poised to grow into the top chapter at Bradley and in Theta Xi.
