DELTA CHI page 2 James Komatz Brother of the Semester Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded each semester in the amount of $250 to the member of the Kansas State Chapter of the Delta Chi Frater- nity who receives the Brother of the Semester Award, the chapter's highest distinction. Steven Niemeyer Associate Member of the Semester Scholarship This scholarship is awarded in memory of Steven Niemeyer '72, who passed away on Christmas Eve in 1971 during a surgical pro- cedure, only one semester before graduation. The scholarship is awarded each semester in the amount of $250 to an associate member who possesses exemplary attributes in schol- arship, fellowship, and character. Aaron Otto Potential Leadership Scholarship This scholarship is awarded in recognition of Brother Aaron Otto '98, an active leader at Kansas State and in the community during the 1990s and "BB" from 2004-06 and 2010-16. The scholarship is awarded semesterly in the amount of $250 to a member who exhibits outstanding campus and community involve- ment and leadership. Dr. Alan Brightman Incoming Student Scholarship This scholarship is awarded in recognition of Dr. Alan Brightman '67, former "A" of the Kansas Chapter who later served as "BB" for a number of chapters, including the Kansas State Chapter from 1992-2002. The scholarship is awarded annually in the amount of $250 to support educational op- portunities for outstanding incoming stu- dents at Kansas State. Dar Cline Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded in memory of Dar Cline '68, the first member of the Delta Chi Fraternity at Kansas State to serve as President of the Interfraternity Council, and is awarded semesterly in the amount of $250 to members who achieve academic distinction. Educational Foundation Scholarships (Continued from page 1) Chapter Eternal_________ Keith R. Cryderman '63 entered Chapter Eternal on May 3. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Jay; daughter, Katherine Burns; granddaughter, Piper Burns; and two sisters, Sally Thorp and Pat Heinze. He was a field secretary for Delta Chi (now known as a leadership consultant) during the 1960s. Keith was an Air Force veteran, and had a 40-year career as a textile industrial engineer with Burlington, Springs Mills, and Dan River. He was past president of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and was an active member of Methodist churches, serving as chairman of the administrative board, building committee, and finance chairman. He enjoyed golf, grilling for the neighborhood, and truly loved watching football, especially when the Panthers or the KSU Wildcats played. Alumni News___________ Kenneth E. Swinson '67 roomed with Robert Platt '67 from Great Bend, Kan. They were born on the exact same day and year. He used to call Robert every year on their birthday, but lost track of his number. If Robert reads this, he should call Kenneth at (808) 250-2830. Kenneth is retired in paradise! He is on the island of Maui in Hawaii where he enjoys playing a lot of golf. Koger Jr. '69 is employed at Koger Agency Inc., where he provides surety bonds for 110 contractor clients who complete $250 million (plus or minus) per year. He is able to travel some with his wife, Cindy. John does not have any hobbies, but he and Cindy have five children. He has no urge to retire anytime soon. He has fond memories of Delta Chi! He enjoys retirement and spends time volunteering, traveling (he has traveled to Europe, Florida, Hawaii, Colorado, and Las Vegas), and hanging out with his eight grandchildren. Cappola '76 received his degree in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, working several years as a hospital/consulting pharmacist before looking into more science-based opportunities. He joined Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals (BI) as a development scientist at the end of 1976. He ALUMNI UPDATE worked there progressing to senior principal scientist and helped develop formulations of the anti-viral drugs for AIDS. After leaving BI in 2006, Michael joined Cephalon Pharmaceuticals as a senior manager. In 2012, he started his own professional consulting business and continues to work as a consultant for the pharmaceutical industry.
