The reason I'm a conserva-
tive Republican is because
I care about poverty. I'm
fighting to help the poor. And
I'm going to do it whether you
vote for me or not. I believe
that in America, if you work
hard and play by the rules,
our society should make sure
you can support yourself and
your family.
So the question is, what
is the best way to make
work pay for folks toward
the bottom of the economic
ladder? That's where the
policy debate should be; that's
where I've focused my work
as Chair of the House Finance
Committee and that's where
conservative policies enacted
by Governor Pat McCrory and
this conservative Legislature
have helped folks whether you
believe it or not and whether
you recognize it or not.
To both sides of the politi-
cal spectrum, if your opinions
are set in stone and you don't
want to work for solutions
that benefit all North Caro-
linians, I'm not your guy. If
you are open to new ideas, if
you're open to having real dis-
cussions, not a battle of par-
tisan talking points, if you're
willing to work for a better
North Carolina for all its citi-
zens, I invite you to work with
me to find those solutions.
The greatest asset we have
in America is the potential in
every single person and I'm
continuing to work to make
sure that everyone has equal
and unfettered access to the
opportunities that will help
them maximize their poten-
tial. That's what being a con-
servative Republican means.
Rep. John Szoka represents
District 45 in the North Carolina
House of Representatives, and is
currently running for office.
