Lambda Chi Alpha - University of Illinois - Champaign, Illinois • Fall 2016 Chi Zetagram Special Edition The construction has been progressing since demolition began in May. CHI ZETA UNDER CONSTRUCTION Make a Donation Today to Help Fund Final Projects W hen the Alumni Association began to investigate the house rebuilding project more than four years ago, we had no idea where it would eventually lead. One of the most important things we did early on was recruit highly talented and experienced Lambda Chi Alpha alumni. We enlisted those with the real estate, construction, finance, and legal skills necessary to embark on the largest construction project that Chi Zeta had ever attempted. Now, during the summer of 2016, these plans have become a reality as we have demolished the near century-old structure at 209 East Armory and started construction on what we believe will be the best-designed fraternity house the Illinois campus has ever seen! The new house is physically superior in every way. We have truly commercial-grade construction designed with no-compromise quality to last another 80 to 100 years (not like the old addition that was built in 1977). The new building features full steel framing with concrete floors that are durable and allow for future reconfigurations if needed, a full fire suppression system, modern HVAC throughout, a full brick exterior for longevity, underground and covered parking, and many more features that are too numerous to list here. It offers more support for the educational focus we want to emphasize, and for fostering the lifelong bonds that define our fraternity. It's something we know Chi Zeta members will be proud of for the rest of our lives, and proud to have helped make happen. We are so excited to have reached this huge initial milestone, getting construction started so it will be ready for our undergraduates to move in less than a year from now in fall 2017. We wouldn't be where we are today without the support of the 243 alumni who have stepped up and made donations. We have raised approximately $1.97 million— enough for Busey Bank of Champaign to loan us the $4.13 million that was needed to begin construction of the project on schedule. Although we're not finished, now it's the fun part that's left! (Continued on page 2) The Lambda Chi house demolition took place early this summer. Excited to move in next Fall, actives at groundbreaking give their thumbs up! The foundation of the new chapter house takes place.
