The Town's Health & Development Board is sponsoring their 2nd an- nual Volunteer of the Year awards. Check out the details on Page 15 of this edition. What a great opportu- nity to recognize the amazing people who tirelessly volunteer their time and energy in our community. Just think, if there were no volun- teers, how would our community function? Who would sit on mu- nicipal boards? Who would serve on the school board or the library board? Who would serve needy residents at food bank, thrift stores, and churches? Who would check on our shut-ins, help with fire and medical services? Who would host dances, bingo, craft shows, art & quilt shows, jam sessions, music events, events at the park? Who would promote our community if not for the volunteers at both cham- bers? Who would teach their skills in arts, crafts, music, and exercise classes? Helping others in need are non-profit agencies, community agency partners and leaders, too. All these things costs money, also. But it also generates a lot of revenue for our community. Many of our signature events in town rely heav- ily on volunteers, so it's a good time to celebrate what makes Quartzsite Quirky! There are countless volun- teers who just quietly help others in the background, with no expecta- tions praise. We all know someone who gives so generously, so please nominate them for this honor. Be- sides, it's always fun to say thank you! Recognizing and being grateful for our amazing community helps us move forward in harmony. Imagine Quartzsite without our volunteers and it's a dreary scenar- io. When people are asked what is it about Quartzsite, they respond, IT'S THE PEOPLE. Just read Joanne Winer's touching letter on Page 7. We are so blessed to be living in such a giving community and to have so many snowbirds lend their time and energy is something to be grateful for! As the season begins, let's not forget how blessed we are! Enjoy the cooling weather and soon our friends will be returning! Woo hoo! DEADLINE : WED.
