Chapter Eternal
O
n February 4, 2016, Bob Busse '50 died in St. Louis. For
those of us who knew him during school and in later years,
he was a man of immediate impression. Tall, well-crafted, and
of engaging voice, he offered the qualities of the leader that he
proved to be during his life. His path in this regard started with
serving as Xi Xi consul. His early work was in the dry goods
business. He then joined Shoe Factory Supplies Company and, as
was his career path, became president. Bob balanced his business
focus with family and community involvement. He was a Boy
Scout leader and mixed this interest with photography, model
railroading, traveling, and yard work. His deep affection for
sports brought him to the all-St. Louis World Series in 1944 and
the last game played by Stan Musial in 1963. Bob was one of those
admirable Sigs who stayed actively invested in our Chapter all
of his life. There is little doubt that, upon entering the Chapter
Eternal, Bob set to work getting things organized.
Founder's descendant makes Sweetheart Dance sweeter. In the middle of this
comely group is Abigail Lockwood, the multi-great-granddaughter of Sigma
Chi founder William Lewis Lockwood. Protecting her from roaming Betas on
her first trip to a Sigma Chi Chapter House are Nathan Willett '18 and Berry
Brooks '18. Abigail was apparently so excited to be among Sigs that she
tossed her shoes away. She is also better looking than William Lewis.
