SECURING THE LEGACY OF GAMMA KAPPA: Building for the Next 100 Years GAMMA KAPPA ANNOUNCES $1,500,000 CAMPAIGN S ince the founding of the Pirate Crew in 1909, Gamma Kappa Zeta of Lambda Chi Alpha has been a strong brotherhood at the University of Missouri. While the strong brotherhood of Gamma Kappa is more than the bricks and mortar of the chapter house, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in sustaining our brotherhood and our proud history and strong values. When the corporation purchased the property on Stewart Road, everyone was excited to continue our legacy at Mizzou in our chapter house. However, as the chapter continues to grow and the strain of keeping a house built in the early 1900s up to date increases, it has become apparent that the corporation needs to upgrade the chapter house. In order to keep up with the rest of the fraternities on campus and the university residence halls, the corporation determined that a new chapter house is needed. Once the decision was made that a new chapter house is needed, Cunningham and Associates Inc. Architects, a Columbia-based firm, was engaged and a design was created for what the future chapter house of Gamma Kappa Zeta would look like. One requirement of the design was to include plans for a sprinkler system, a new safety measure required by the Columbia City Council for all Greek houses at MU. After the design was created, the corporation (which includes two attorneys, a president of a residential development and general contracting services firm, a marketing and communications coordinator, a brother who works in commercial real estate, and a brother who works with home loans) began working with Pennington & Company in the fall of 2014. A feasibility study was conducted from December 2014 until March 2015 to gauge alumni interest in the project. The feedback was that this would be a good time to move forward with building a new chapter house. In conjunction with this building project, it is with great pride that we announce the Securing the Legacy of Gamma Kappa: Building for the Next 100 Years campaign. Initial commitments from loyal alumni now total $913,168. This early support is indicative of the lifelong importance of our experience as a brother of Lambda Chi Alpha. While this is an amazing start, it will take the generous support of every alumnus to reach our goal and make this project a reality. A top facility will help us continue to position Gamma Kappa as the premier fraternity at the University of Missouri. As we formally announce our vision for the future of Lambda Chi Alpha at the University of Missouri, we need your generous support as never before. In the coming weeks, you will receive additional information detailing the house project and the ways in which you can help. Remember, each of us has benefitted from the work and sacrifice of the brothers who came before us, and now we have the opportunity to extend our tradition of excellence. For all who enjoyed the brotherhood of Gamma Kappa, and for all of us who have benefited from our membership in the Fraternity, it is time to secure the legacy of Gamma Kappa at the University of Missouri.
