P i Deuteron Chapter is stronger and better than ever. From a difficult time five years ago, we have risen to a position on the Hill of which all can be Mighty Proud! Thanks to the dedication of the leaders in the house during the last few years, as Erich Lanz '17 summarizes in his review in this newsletter, we are doing well. And we're prepared to get even better. Thanks to Rick Boyd '93, who lead the House Corporation through a very difficult period, and to the many who worked with him for tireless hours to overcome the adversity. I would also like to thank the generous Brothers who have given substantial funds to the Mighty Proud capital campaign's phase one improvements, which were critical to our comeback. The majestic first floor; the first-class housemother's quarters; the expansive, impressive new patio; and the well-conceived, efficient fourth floor have all been instrumental. Thank you, John Bumgarner '64, Monte Soukup '88, Kevin Mitchelson '79, Dan Lowe '85, and many, many more who have made the difference. The second and third floors require an upgrade, the HVAC system needs to be replaced, and worn out windows have seen better days. And there are decisions yet about whether or not to invest in better rooms for the seniors who choose to live in the house. These second phase improvements are estimated to cost $950,000. Through more donor generosity and the dedicated work of those who have already given so much and still remain motivated and engaged to finish the job, we will succeed with the second phase of our campaign, which also includes paying down the current letter of credit with our bank. It is an honor to serve an excellent group of young men along with the experienced, proven Brothers on the House Corporation, and a soon-to-be rejuvenated BCA under the leadership of Patrick Haverty '10. Since a day last December when I accompanied John Hondros '66 to dinner at the house, I have been impressed with the Undergraduate Brothers. They are good. They are well organized. They truly care about Fiji. Let's finish the job for them and for all of us. Please join us for cocktails at the house before the Stag Pig Dinner on October 21.
