Phi Gamma Delta Chapter House Association P.O. Box 530 Lawrence, KS 66044 Address Service Requested MIGHTY PROUD Pi Deuteron Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta University of Kansas is a testament to the creed that Phi Gamma Delta is "not for college days alone." These Brothers share a bond that no amount of time and distance will break. "I am so proud of my pledge Brothers for donating the most money to the house restoration project and for having the largest percentage of donors of any pledge class," said Hondros. As the week drew to a close too quickly, the Brothers began planning for the next reunion, determined to bring an even larger group together for the next one, and looking forward to more belly laughs about sneaking down the senior stairs, Fiji Island parties, getting shillelagh'd, and singing Fiji Girl to their special ladies after giving them their pin. (Those lyrics are still ingrained in their memories, and on one occasion they delighted us with a rendition). As someone who witnessed this special week as an outsider, I can assure you the young men in the class of 1966 learned to respect the Phi Gamma Delta core values of friendship, knowledge, service, morality, and excellence, and those values have been roadmaps that shaped their lives. These eight men serve as wonderful examples of what a great Fraternity experience can mean to the young men that follow. Pi Deuteron Reflects on an Outstanding Year T he Pi Deuteron Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta accomplished and excelled at many events on and off campus in the 2015-16 academic year. The men of Pi Deuteron remained dedicated to the Chapter's values and history while encouraging each other to grow and flourish as a whole. SCHOLARSHIP This year, the Chapter achieved a healthy 3.07 GPA, placing us 11th out of 25 on the Hill, an improvement of almost .05 from the 2014-15 year. With assistance of Scholarship Chairmen Daniel Erickson '19 and Andrew Boppart '16, we were able to conduct our semiannual scholarship draft that rewarded the team with the highest GPA with a $150 scholarship. Brother Roger Templin '89 also graciously gave his time and effort to help reform and encourage new ideas to improve the Chapter as well as aid in awarding of the end-of-year scholarships to recipients. RECRUITMENT Our three dedicated Recruitment Chairmen, Matt Johnson '18, Austin Bernard '18, and Riley Brown '17, worked tirelessly to put together a new member class of 34, the highest in our recent history. This year we have young men joining Fiji who represent more than six different states and exemplify all of the core values that make our Chapter proud and strong. We signed 29 young men through the informal recruitment process and five through the formal process in the summer. INTRAMURALS Pi Deuteron played every intramural sport that KU had to offer this year. From football to soccer, we fielded significant teams to challenge for titles in each sport. Accolades include: Elite 8 in softball, Elite 8 in volleyball, Elite 8 in football, Final 4 in outdoor soccer, Finals in indoor soccer, and second place in the Intramural Cup. ROCK CHALK REVUE Directors Mike Ahrens '16, Brandon Easley '16, and Heath Satterlee '17 worked nonstop throughout the year to put together a spectacular production with the women of Tri Delta. Prior to this year, Pi Deuteron had not made the Rock Chalk Revue showcase in eight years. The production was called "Panic in the Pantry," and involved more than 25 members of the Chapter who helped dance, sing, and build sets. It was a marvelous experience that has already created a positive attitude throughout the house. In April, our new directors, Daniel Erickson '19, John Foster '19, and AJ Appino '18, serenaded the women of Kappa Delta, with whom we are paired. We can't wait to see where this year's Rock Chalk Revue will lead. CHENEY CUP AND OTHER FIJI AWARDS Pi Deuteron applied for Fiji National awards for the first time in more than six years. We applied for all eight of the Chapter awards: the Baker Cup, Brightman Trophy, Cheney Cup, Condon Cup, Coon Plaque, Jordan Bowl, Owen Cup, and Zerman Trophy. We believe these awards are extremely valuable and show how well Pi Deuteron has performed, displaying our intent to always strive for improvement. KU CHAPTER INVOLVEMENT The men of Pi Deuteron pride themselves on being heavily involved in and out of the Chapter. We participate in more than 30 clubs on campus, two different philanthropies throughout the year, including the annual Fiji Run, and more than 15 different community service organizations. MAJOR GOALS FOR THE NEW YEAR Pi Deuteron hopes to improve upon its esteemed reputation on campus every year. We hope to continue our great success with recruitment, be top five in grades, place in the top two in the Intramural Cup, add another major philanthropy in the spring of 2017, and further establish ourselves as gentlemen of the highest quality. It has been an absolute pleasure having been elected President of the Pi Deuteron Chapter. I appreciate our alumni's involvement as it helps our members grow and see what it means to be a true Phi Gamma Delta Brother. If you ever wish to stop by the Chapter House, you are always more than welcome to do so. I wish everyone the best this year. Fraternally, Erich Lanz '17 Chapter President erichlanz@yahoo.com SA VE T H E D A T E !
