SAE Alabama Alpha Mu Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Auburn University P.O. Box 241767 Montgomery, AL 36124-1767 Address Service Requested Alpha Mu News e Alabama A pril 25-29 marked the Alabama Alpha Mu Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon's inaugural Cans for a Cause philanthropy event benefiting the Campus Food Pantry and East Alabama Food Bank. e brothers of SAE came up with a creative solution to limit the amount of student dining dollars that go to waste every year at Auburn University. Every college has some type of dining plan for their students and on our campus students are allotted a certain amount of dining dollars to use at a variety of dining options around campus. However, at the end of the semester, the unused money expires and essentially goes to waste rather than rolling over to the next semester. e brothers of SAE took notice of this unnecessary waste and aer investigation found that the unused money each year totals well over $1 million. is discovery led to the inception of SAE's first Cans for a Cause philanthropy event, which gave Auburn students the opportunity to use their end of the semester dining dollars to purchase canned goods and other non-perishable food items to help support families in need in the Auburn/Opelika community. Tables and drop boxes were set up outside of all the convenient stores on campus and brothers encouraged students to put their money toward this cause. Auburn's student body was extremely willing to help and donated over 1,300 pounds of food throughout the week. All of the food donated went to the Campus Food Pantry and the East Alabama Food Bank. e week was a great success and all of the brothers are looking forward to growing Cans for a Cause into an even bigger event and increasing our collection totals next year.
