SAE PAGE 3 Ending the Year Strong Alabama Alpha Mu Focuses on Scholarship, Philanthropy, and Service T his spring semester was one for the books. We made big strides as a chapter to increase focus on scholarship, philanthropy, and service through introducing new academic requirements and resources, hosting a new philanthropy event, and volunteering in the community throughout the semester. Emphasizing Academics Scholarship is a top priority for our chapter. We implemented a scholarship program this semester that provides a mixture of incentives as well as increased visibility for the academic resources already provided by Auburn University. e primary incentive offered is the scholarship dinner at a restaurant in the Auburn area to reward brothers who made a minimum 3.5 GPA the previous semester. To help our youngest members, new members attended academic coaching sessions to help develop good study habits and time management skills. Course specific supplemental instruction and tutors were also made available to all brothers. e result was an increase in our overall GPA, and we hope to continue enhancing the scholarship program next fall. Supporting the Community To further serve the Auburn area, many of us participated in e Big Event, a campus-wide day of service that allows Auburn University students to help families in the community. Our chapter was excited to help and divided into five groups to do everything from painting houses to reshingling roofs. It was a great day of fun and giving back. Help Us Recruit True Gentlemen Summer recruitment is upon us and we can't wait to meet and build the next class of True Gentlemen. We have been in contact and sent out letters to a large list of potential new members, and have planned multiple recruitment events for the summer at brothers' lake houses and farms. If you would like to recommend a student, please e-mail Recruitment Chairmen Wilkins Cook '18 at whc0005@auburn.edu or Warren Hedgepeth '19 at wwh0007@auburn.edu. Keeping Involved on Campus We have recently made a large push to get brothers involved in other organizations on campus. Our brothers are writers for e Plainsman, athletic recruiters with Tiger Hosts, directors of the Freshman Leadership Program, Camp War Eagle counselors, IMPACT service project coordinators, players on the club lacrosse and golf teams, and participants in numerous other activities. Involvement outside of the fraternity is very important to us and contributes to our success as a whole. ankful for Alumni Support We extend a thank-you to all of the alumni who came out to the A-Day Alumni Weekend and enjoyed good food and good fun. Please contact Alumni Chairman Shields Goodman '18 at fsg0001@auburn.edu if you are interested in coordinating a class reunion in the fall. We appreciate your support and would love to host you for more alumni weekends this football season. As we begin the capital campaign, we could not be more thankful for the support our alumni have already demonstrated in improving the chapter house. ese new dorms mean great things for the future of our chapter, and it would not be possible without the loyalty and generosity of our esteemed alumni. While we were sad to see the semester come to an end, we are optimistic about what the future holds. We will continue to improve upon the positive strides made this semester and are looking forward to grooming another class of leaders. ank you for your support and feel free to drop by the chapter house to visit at anytime.
