June 13, 2012 Assessor' Corner To all Owners of all Travel Trailers, 5th Wheels and Storage Trailers etc. If you decide to put an Arizona plate on your unit, but it is currently on the Personal Property Tax roll, you may want to do so in December of the cur- rent year, as the Assessor's lien date is January 1st. Statue does not allow for the Assessor to pro-rate bills, you could wind up paying both personal property and the License Plate. If there have been changes in the status of your Travel trailers and 5th wheels such as a change of ownership, change of location, change of mailing address. It is necessary to inform the Assessor's Offi ce at the time of change. Lack of timely notifi cation prevents the Asses- sor's offi ce from making corrections to our records in a timely manner. If they are not, it may result in the tax- payer paying unnecessary costs to the MVD on a plated unit or assessment cost on personal property. www.DesertMessenger.com If you plan to move your unit you need to contact the Assessor's Offi ce before you do so. You must get a (504) TAX CLEARANCE permit before moving the unit. There is no charge to the Taxpayer for this permit. It only takes our offi ce staff a few minutes to pro- cess this permit. (A fi ne may apply if no permit is obtained). If you are a property owner and are allowing someone to place there unit on your property please contact the Assessor's offi ce to make sure the as- sessment of the unit is in their name not your name unless you choose to have it assessed on your property. Pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes, Section 42-19153, all Travel trailers or Recreational Vehicles remaining in the State of Arizona for a period of 6 months or more must be titled in the State of Arizona and either carry cur- rent Arizona registration or be placed on the personal property tax roll. Trailers subject to this tax are: • Trailers used as a permanent resi- dence. • Trailers used as seasonal residence and remaining in a mobile home or recreational vehicle park. • Trailers located in a storage lot or building. • Trailers used as an offi ce or for busi- ness purposes. • Trailers located on residential lots. Only Trailers carrying current Arizona registration are exempt.
