General Federation of Women's Club (GFWC) of Arizona held its 113th Annual Convention and the 80th Junior Membership Confer- ence April 29-May 1st, 2016 at the Crown Plaza San Marcos in Chan- dler. Members who attended from Salome's General Federation of Women's Club VI-SA-WEN were: Barbara Hymer, President; Judie New, Secretary; Pat Palmer, 1st Vice President and Pat Pisarski. State awards were given out for the volunteer hours from the orga- nization. Clubs are divided into cat- egories according the size of mem- bership. VI-SA-WEN club was in competition with Phoenix, Paradise Valley and several other clubs. VI-SA-WEN won awards in: Edu- cation 1st place also State winner ( winner over all the clubs in Arizona); Public Issues-Community Service Program -2nd place; GFWC Junior Special Project- Advocates for Chil- dren- Honorable Mention; Fundrais- ing 1st place; Membership Program- 1st place; Women's History and Resource Center Program- 1st Place (winner over all the clubs in Arizona) and also GFWC-AZ Club Creativ- ity Award Winner.Our club may be small, the members are mighty. Our club will be dark again till our September meeting. We are still open on Mondays doing our quilts and items for our bazaar. We are still selling our RADA Cutlery. We're are at the clubhouse from 10:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. If you would like to come down and do some crafts with us, please do. You do not have to be a member. I would like to thank the McMul- len Paramedics, Hoser and Hess, I fell and they came to my assistance.. also the staff at Salome Elementary School and the the Drs, and Nurses at Wickenburg Hospital ER. I broke the bone in my shoulder. Thank you to all who has so helpful to me. ~ Pat Pisarski offers two monthly networking opportunities; Breakfast meet- ings on the 3rd Thursday of the month and Chamber Mixers on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. Chamber events offer a chance for community members to share information about your business or organization. On Wednesday, June 1st, Nor- man Simpson resigned from the Quartzsite Town Council after hav- ing served as Vice Mayor since No- vember 2014. Simpson has submit- ted his mayoral candidacy packet. By law, A.R.S 9-235, the council shall fill the vacancy by appoint- ment. The council will discuss the appointment process during the next meeting on Tuesday, June 14 at 7pm. The primary election will Vice Mayor Simpson resigns to run for mayor be held August 30. Candidates for mayor are current Mayor Ed Foster, Dr. Christina An- astasia, Norman Simpson, and cur- rent Council Member Robert "Gun- ny" St. Germain. Candidates for the two open Coun- cil seats are former Constable Starr BearCat, Jerald Kinkade, Deanna D. Sheehan and QES President and former Council member Monica Timberlake.
