This time, from the inside, I have learned more than I ever knew be- fore about government, at all levels of our society, much of which I find entirely unacceptable. I've learned that as a County Supervisor in the State of Arizona, one must be constantly vigilant in an effort to thwart the constant barrage of threats against our Con- sititutional rights and our individu- al freedoms as American citizens. I've learned that the importance of meeting personally with State Representatives and Senators, as well as Supervisors and other officials from around the State, is an absolute necessity in order to maintain the trust and best inter- ests of our people. Unfortunately, there are always those who attempt to convince us that they can solve any problem that arises and they have the right answer to every question. I have also learned that there is nothing farther from the truth. During my campaign, I stated that I do not like the word "prom- ise," rather; "to the best of my ability." This, because there are too many variables in most issues and to me a "promise" not fulfilled is nothing more than a lie. As well, I do not like the word "change", rather: "redirection." This, because "change" is both ambiguous and subjective and may not always be what we ultimately want or need. I've learned that the responsibili- ties of this office are astronomical in number and occasionally there are issues that must be monitored to some degree, 24/7. I have learned that an individual County Supervisor is only one third of the overall governing pie, can- not bend steel with bare hands, nor change the course of mighty mon- soon storm floods in established flood plains which are controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers. I've also learned that this office re- quires sober and objective dedica- tion through personal availability, whether by phone, E-mail, or in person, every business day and sometimes more. And finally, I have also learned that there are those who appear to believe that they and their particu- lar issues are more important than those of others, and at times, take offense at being told the unbiased and objective truth. As we move into this 2016 elec- tion season, I encourage each of you to please, thoroughly examine each and every candidate, espe- cially at our local La Paz County level and do your objective best to determine the underlying reason(s) why those persons are running for any office, prior to casting your ballot. Remember that each person elected to local office is there for four (4) years, good or bad! I firmly believe that we must elect persons of high professional stan- dards and integrity to represent both La Paz County and District 2. In these increasingly tough eco- nomic times, we all want the best we can get for our money. Unfor- tunately, there are always those ar- rogant few that want the same for themselves, all at taxpayer expense. So with this in mind, I respect- fully request that you deeply and responsibly consider and reflect on the following: Is it for the salary, for the insurance and benefits, for self-centered reasons; or is it to fairly, openly, ethically and objec- tively represent you and your best interests as a La Paz County resi- dent and taxpayer to "the best of their ability?" As I stated during my campaign for office 4 years ago: "I will not be running for a second term;" but rest assured that as always, I am entirely committed to serving you to the best of my objective ability until the conclusion of my term on December 31, 2016.
