Sighs of Psi PSI CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA EPSILON AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA t SPRING 2016 INSIDE: Chapter Highlights • 2-3 Alumni News • 3-4 From the Historian • 5 Changes at Psi ChaPter I t is with great sadness that I must report that on April 6, 2016, Mrs. Diane Cooley Black moved on to become a housemother for the Mystic Circle. Mrs. Black was only our housemother for three short years and had to retire at the end of last year due to illness. Although her tenure was short, she quickly took to the Chapter and relished her time at the house. She liked to refer to herself as "The Mother of the Brothers" and would sign e-mails and her articles for this newsletter as such (see http:// uadke.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Spring-2012-Sighs-of-Psi.pdf). Mrs. Black's happy presence is and will be missed. As I noted in my very brief intro to the last Sighs, Alabama has claimed its 16th national championship trophy and the Psi Chapter of DKE is working on its 12th Lion Trophy. With a little luck and a lot of talent, the Chapter will be able to do so at the DKE International Convention, which is going to be held for a second time at the Chapter from July 27-31. You can see a nice picture of the Chapter House and find information on attending here: dke.org/2016convention. It would be great to see everyone at the Lion Trophy banquet, which I believe will be held on Saturday, July 30, in the early evening. Lastly, there are a couple of changes in personnel worth noting. Mrs. Vivian Anderson has been shouldering the duties of housemother on a part-time basis this past year. We expect that she will return full-time in the fall. One of Mrs. Vivian's wonderful additions to the house is Jessie Jones. Jessie is quiet, but if you came to some of the games last fall and had the barbecue, you'll know that his cooking speaks for him. I contend that we have the best food on campus and it continues to get better. And we had a change up on the House Corporation Board with James Fowler '11 taking over as treasurer for Angus Cooper '95. I hope you enjoy this edition of the Sighs and now, in the immortal words of that great Alabama running back, Forrest Gump '67, "That's all I have to say about that." ITB, Black Chaffe '83 The crawfish boil DKE hosted earlier this year. CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS Senior Spotlight on Austin Parrish '16 A ustin Parrish '16 has made a huge impact on our Chapter. Austin serves the university as a Capstone Man, and was just recently named Capstone Man of the Year. Austin has brought a "revival" to the DKE house since his appearance from Washington, D.C., bringing many members to know and understand Jesus better. Austin served as a senior student-staff member on Cru, a Christian organization on campus, which led him on a mission trip to east Asia. He also brought a record-setting 19 members to Outback, a Christian retreat that took place one weekend this spring, which was more than any other fraternity on campus. Austin also created one of DKE's first bible studies. As he leaves us this fall, we wish him the best on his future endeavors.
