10 MAY 18-24, 2016 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM 159 MAXWELL STREET, FAYETTEVILLE | (910) 483-8133 | FAYBIZ.COM Letter from the Chairman The Greater Fayetteville Chamber has been making some major changes and strategic adjustments. Over the past year, we completed Task Force 2025, a major review of the Chamber's mission. In this review, the task force recommended breaking away the Economic Development unit and focusing instead on business advocacy as the core mission. To support such a change in focus, we needed strong transition management. After a nationwide search, Retired Major General Rodney Anderson was selected to lead the Chamber through the implementation of the new strategic plan of re-branding and rebuilding the organization. Operations follow a set of phases, beginning with strategic planning followed by implementation. Following the task force plan, the Chamber has successfully implemented its refocus from economic development to business advocacy. Now, the Chamber is ready to close out the implementation phase and to begin the operational phase. As was announced last week, Anderson will step down to pursue other business opportunities, and Mr. Darsweil Rogers will take the helm. Through the first stages of advocacy, the Chamber has taken on the task to review Sign Ordnances for the UDO, Impact Studies for the Army and Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES) as they review placement of an entertainment complex on the north side of Fort Bragg. This work includes developing a business agenda to present to both the Fayetteville Delegation for the State and our Congressional representatives. Darsweil Rogers is no stranger to the Chamber. He is currently the Treasurer on the Board, as well as the Chair of the Operations/Finance Committee. As a local business owner and consultant, he brings over 30 years of experience in the business and finance industry, and specializes in executive business coaching, strategic business consulting, and management effectiveness training. This expertise naturally fits the role required by the Chamber to transition the implementation phase into successful operations. He will serve as the Interim CEO & President for an unspecified time and will focus on continuing the action plan presented in the Task Force 2025 report at the end of last year. The Chamber thanks Rodney for all his energy and efforts to help transition the Chamber into a separate organization with a renewed focus on our members. This transformation is now completed, and we look forward to Darsweil working to enhance membership development and the critical programs that bring value to our members. We are confident that this will be a smooth transition and that the Chamber will continue to grow into a stronger advocate for the businesses in the greater Fayetteville area.
