3 DELTA TAU DELTA SCOTT WISE '95 THANKS DELTA TAU DELTA FOR CAREER SKILLS M ore than 20 years after graduating from Ball State University, Scott Wise '95 still sees Delta Tau Delta as a part of his everyday life, whether he's talking to his best friends from the chapter or leading a team of employees at work. "Delta Tau Delta has had a part in everything I've done," Scott says. "When I look back on what has made me the father and businessman I am today, I think it comes from my years as a Delt." During college, Scott served as philanthropy chairman and Interfraternity Council president, and he credits his time as a leader with developing the skills he now uses on a regular basis in his career. Not only did he learn about time management and coordinating events with a large group, but he also learned the importance of living with integrity. "The letters you wear on your chest become a new last name for you. I wasn't just Scott Wise, I was Scott Wise from Delta Tau Delta. It's one of the things you never want to tarnish, so you wear your letters with pride," Scott says. The skills Scott learned from his time at DTD have allowed him to establish a successful career, and now he is the president and CEO of Scotty's Brewhouse, Scotty's Brew Club, Scotty's Dawghouse, and Thr3e Wise Men Brewing Co. He started the restaurant in 1996 and has since grown it to 17 locations across Indiana, and in Illinois and Florida (with locations pending currently in Louisville, Ky., Cincinnati, Ohio, Oxford, Ohio, and Columbus, Ohio). When Scott is not busy with business and his family, he finds time to help the current Delt undergraduates by speaking at recruitment events. As a senior in college, he reached out to alumni for career connections, so as an alumnus, he tries to keep the door open for any younger Delts who need his help or advice. "I think it's important for me to give back because of everything that I have received from being a Delt. There are so many things you gain from being in a fraternity, and Delta Tau Delta has allowed me to build a foundation in becoming a responsible man. It's pretty incredible to be able to look back on those experiences and know that it shaped the person I have become today. I'm proud to know I will always be connected to Delta Tau Delta wherever I go." Scott and his wife, Amy, have four children: Slater, Lincoln, Vaughn, and Ivy. He and his family live in Indianapolis, Indiana. Scott's e-mail is swise@scottysbrewhouse.com. Chapter advisor proud of epsilon Mu I am certainly proud of the academic progress the Epsilon Mu members have exhibited over the past four semesters. This success has been the result of the positive position the past two executive committees have taken toward academic improvement and the addition of a faculty academic advisor to the chapter. The present executive committee has prioritized academics in its pledge class selections and in its ongoing review of the active membership. The review includes support for any member who falls below a 2.8 GPA. In addition, the chapter strengthened its Honor Board procedures and reviewed and amended its bylaws. And, of course, the chapter's continued emphasis on community service and philanthropic endeavors is second to none. Specifically, the membership has steadily increased its GPA and rank compared to Ball State fraternities the past four semesters: spring 2014, 2.642 GPA, 13/14 ranking; fall 2014, 2.653 GPA, 11/14 ranking; spring 2015, 2.905 GPA, 7/14 ranking; and fall 2015, 2.947 GPA, 5/12 ranking. The membership is focused on continuing its positive academic progress. Finally, the executive committee set numerous goals at its January overnight retreat in Kokomo, which included, among many, the final amendment review of the chapter's bylaws to become compatible with the Arch Chapter Constitution and Bylaws. This is a major achievement for the leadership, and members spent untold hours of research, writing and rewriting, and finalizing the document in late February. Any alumni wishing a PDF copy of the revised Epsilon Mu bylaws may request one from Alumni Relations Advisor Dan Hockney '65 at dhockney02@gmail.com. Looking forward to seeing you at the 50th on September 17.
