There may be four or five track members going to state. The last qualifying meet was on April 27th. Good luck to our track team! Special congratulations to the following students who were inducted to the National Honors Society; Jacquelin Harold, Esme Cruz, Moriah Freedman, Ezekiel Palma, Joanna Medina, and Han- nah Phillips. They have worked hard to maintain a high GPA and show exceptional character. Student council held their elections on April 28th. We wish all can- didates good luck and hope they have a productive upcoming year. The Softball team has given their best effort of the season this week. On the 21st, Salome played Babo- quivari. The players were tired, given the heat and the four hour drive, but they still gave their best in pitching, catching, batting, in- field and even outfield. The soft- ball team played their best overall. They may only have had five wins during the season, but you would think they had more by the way the team came together and played. The Baseball team had a rough season this year, but they hope to have a better one next year. The last soft- ball game was on April 26th and was a win. The baseball team also played on April 26th but suffered an unfor- tunate loss. FBLA would like to thank the ViSi- Wen Women's Club for their gener- ous donation, and Lions Club for inviting a student representative to speak to the members. FBLA would like to thank all of the members of the community who bought tickets for the quilt. They also would like to thank all of the retailers for letting FBLA put coin collection boxes in their stores. The club raised two hundred dollars, which they do- nated to the March for Babies event on April 9th. FBLA would like to say they had a wonderful outing at the state confer- ence and received the Gold Chapter Award for their help and community involvement throughout the year. Additionally, Mr. Childers, the advi- sor, received the Advisor of the Year award. Finally, FBLA asks that you "like" and follow them on Facebook. FBLA had a wonderful year, and will have an even greater one next year. The Senior banquet will be held on May 5th, the sports banquet will be held on May 10th, and most impor- tantly, the graduation will be held on May 14th, where we will be say- ing farewell to the class of 2016. Alamo Lake State Park is just 80 miles from Quartzsite; 38 miles north of Wenden. It's about an hour and half drive. Alamo Lake is one of the best places to fish for bass in Arizona. The crystal clear lake is sur- rounded by mountainous terrain speckled with brush, wildflowers and cacti making for a visually pleasing experience. The park has good wildlife viewing opportuni- ties, and you may spot a bald or golden eagle. Nestled in the Bill Williams River Valley away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Alamo Lake State Park offers outdoor fun, premier bass fishing, rest and relaxation. For nature lovers, spring rains bring an abundance of wild flow- ers and the lake environment attracts a variety of wildlife year round, including waterfowl, foxes, coyotes, mule deer and wild bur- ros. Stargazers are sure to enjoy the amazing views of the night sky with the nearest city lights some forty miles away! Alamo Lake, located on the Bill Williams River where the Big Sandy River and Santa Maria River come together, was created with the completion of Alamo Dam in 1968. The Army Corps of Engineers designed the earthen dam primarily for flood control. During flood events, the lake ba- sin is capable of "capturing" large amounts of water in a relatively short time. The lake has been re- corded rising 11 vertical feet in one night! Unusually high flows dur- ing the late 1970s and through the 1980s have increased the average size of the lake, helping to create one of Arizona's best fishing holes. Fishing tournaments are com- mon at the lake and anglers have an excellent opportunity to catch bluegill, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and black crappie. Remem- ber, the desert can be harsh and dangerous, but it is also very frag- ile. Help us protect it, and yourself, by camping in the designated camp areas and keeping vehicles on maintained roadways. Alamo Lake State Park DEADLINE : WED.
