Keep the Momentum Going Mike Kirn '73, BH491 Reflects on the Campaign for Beta Eta T he personal growth experienced, leadership opportunities afforded, and lifelong friendships made at Tau Kappa Epsilon are just a few of the many reasons Mike Kirn '73, BH491 is supporting the Pride in Our Past, Securing Our Future campaign. Without the support of loyal alumni, Beta Eta would not be at the level of success it is today, nor would it have produced the quality men whose legacies remain alive and well. Just as it was years ago when Mike was an active member, alumni support and involvement is vital to sustaining that longstanding tradition. Mike's connection to Beta Eta began when his older brother, David Kirn '70, BH422 pledged TKE at UMR. "I felt my best chance for surviving engineering school and joining a fraternity would be with some good old-fashioned familial guidance and supervision. David graduated before his job was over." Mike is grateful for the many relationships he made during his undergraduate years and that they have lasted throughout his life. He particularly enjoyed the friendship he had with Randy "Sport" White '73, BH508, who was his first little brother. "RIP my dear friend…" Over the years, Mike's relationship with the fraternity and his fellow Fraters has only grown stronger, especially since the campaign has brought alumni together. "To me, the campaign is a rebirth for Beta Eta. It creates a type of environment I would want for my son; a state-of-the-art facility and a clear focus on brotherhood and scholarship," shares Mike. He is enthusiastic about the opportunities the campaign presents for the future of the Chapter. "I want to ensure the sustainability of the fraternity I cherish." Knowing that our success depends on all alumni, he encourages fellow Fraters to support TKE at Missouri S&T. "Give back what you can so others can enjoy the Rolla TKE experience. Brotherhood is about leaving a legacy to sustain those life-framing experiences for all Beta Eta TKEs who come after us." The class competition offers not only the opportunity to support the Chapter, but also the chance to leave your pledge class' mark on the future of Beta Eta. Three years ago, Mike retired from his position as a principal for Code Consultants Inc. "Every evening is a Friday night and every day is a Saturday." He and his wife, Alyson, live in Van Buren, Missouri. They have three children and three grandchildren. You can connect with Mike at mdkirn@gmail.com. "Brotherhood is about leaving a legacy to sustain those life-framing experiences for all Beta Eta TKEs who come aer us."
