TRI DELTA DISPATCH 2 T his year is already flying by! We are staying busy, though, with a lot more emphasis on the importance of academics and professional development. We have implemented three new academic programs since January to help achieve our goals. We also have an open chapter planned at the end of April that will focus on résumé tips and interview skills. EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT THETA OMEGA Something else our chapter is focusing on is cultural competence. Greek life has recently received a bad reputation for exclusivity and racism in the media, and our chapter is dedicated to being an inclusive, safe place for anyone and everyone. We have several speakers scheduled for this semester to discuss cultural competence and sensitivity. Also, one of our own members, Jeney Do '15, has volunteered to share her own story of being a person of color within the Greek community. CHAPTER FOCUSES ON HEALTH Another key aspect of our programming this spring includes overall health; in particular, positive body image, stress management, and sexual assault training. Our body image representative, Lilah Wilder '15, taught a yoga class for a fun, stress-relieving event, and will host Love Your Body Week and Fat Talk Free Week. Before spring break, we will have a guest speak about sexual assault awareness and prevention. ACCOMPLISHMENTS GALORE Finally, some highlights of the year. I am happy to say our chapter is a finalist in the annual Rock Chalk Revue show. Our members are working very hard and are determined to make this the best show yet! In October, 15 members visited St. Jude and Tri Delta Place. It was an amazing experience to see what all of our fundraising efforts go to and to meet some of the patients. We can't wait to see what is in store for the remaining semester! Like, really easy. Not only that, she will tell you her secrets on how you and your family can live a healthier life, too. Years ago, Erin was working for a construction equipment magazine when her friend, Jennipher Walters, mentioned to her the idea of starting a fitness blog. This was much more fascinating to Erin than construction, so the two put their heads together and voila: Fit Bottomed Girls (FBG) was born. "The blog is a genuine voice from real girls who want to be fit and healthy," Erin said. "We want to show people that living a healthy lifestyle isn't about torturing yourself with workouts or depriving yourself of your favorite foods. It's about doing what you love and incorporating more healthy aspects as much as possible." As the years went on, the site grew, and so did Erin's family. After she became pregnant with her first child, an extension of FBG—Fit Bottomed Mamas (FBM)—was created. "Jenn and I knew that having children would shift how we dealt with fitness. I now have three and Jenn has one. FBM is all about trying to stay active when you've got less time for yourself. It's about how to get picky eaters to try new things. It's about all those ridiculous adventures in parenting that you just can't imagine before you have kids, and finding balance in your role as a mom. "This job has been a crazy adventure. I never would have imagined working for myself when I started out in my career, but it's nice that I've had the flexibility to, particularly when I've got kids so young. It's hard to juggle all of it, but I also wouldn't change it either. We went from having one site to three websites (Fit Bottomed Eats being the third). We wrote two books along the way, A Girl's Guide to Fitting in Fitness, which is geared toward teens, and The Fit Bottomed Girls Anti-Diet, which is our whole health and fitness philosophy distilled into book form. It's got 10 10-minute fixes in each chapter that can help people be healthier, and it's about getting out of the dieting and Fit Mama Erin Chapman Whitehead '99 on Her Journey to the Blogosphere
