There's been lots to do and loads to see. Worked part-time again this season and got to enjoy hugs from return- ing customers and a chance to meet many new faces. The big tent looked like it was a success and it was good to see some new vendors along with the returnees. Things will soon slow down and Quartzsite will return to it's quiet self. It will be a time when the needs of the community begin to surface and focus for many of us will be on helping to feed, clothe, and help those less fortunate in our commu- nity, we call home. Last year Covenant Lutheran Church and many community folks and other groups were able to ben- efit from a program called Thrivent Financial. It provided three major grant opportunities for Operation Hero Comfort's Auction, The Soup and Chowder Fest and Covenant Lutheran's Annual Yard Sale. These grant funds were then utilized to help with their fund raising proj- ects which brought over $5,000 into the community to help Opera- tion Hero Comfort and Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank. There were countless volunteer hours and wonderful folks included in each of these three fund raising events. Must also mention and give thanks for all the free donated items by lo- cal business folks, crafters and art- ists all contributing to the final suc- cess of each fund raiser. The goal of Thrivent being to pass it forward in local communities and for people to learn to live generously. "Thrivent Action Team Projects" On March 12, 2016, Ross Logan from Thrivent Financial, will be at Covenant Lutheran Church at 10:00 AM. Come and find out how you can make a difference in your community. You will learn how to become an "Action Team Member". How you can receive $250 to do a service project or have a fund raiser to help your community organiza- tion or individual who needs help. Help us to identify needs and areas where we can assist with a project. Last year we submitted over 25 Action Team Projects each given $250 to help with extra postage for Operation Hero Comfort, seed money to unite with the VFW yard sale in making additional monies which purchased sports equipment for the local school, new signage for the museum, food baskets for the seniors for Thanksgiving, the new 4-H club kids and so much more. Several of the folks who applied will be telling you how easy and how wonderful it was to do an "Action Team Project". We encourage you to mark your calendars and to attend if you want to make a difference in Quartzsite. Help your organization or an indi- vidual. Coffee and refreshments will be served.
