"It made me realize how important it is to stay in school and get more education after high school," a stu- dent said. "It really pays off in the long run." Students were taught about budgeting and how to The students took part in a class that showed them take care of their personal finances. Staff and students alike were awed by the security and sheer amounts of money that they encountered dur- ing their visit. Before entering the vaults the students were warned to mentally prepare themselves for what they were about the encounter. Several students came back to school rattling off such things as "There was $46 million in this little glass case no bigger than my footlocker at home" and "Can you believe they shred more than $56 million dollars worth of money each day at this place? Wish I could have taken some of it before they shredded it." Each student was able to take home some of the shredded money as a souvenir. Principal Barbara Thomas wanted to thank teacher Aaron Sanders for going through all the required secu- rity measures needed to set this trip up and thought it was a wonderful experience for the students to get some much needed information on finance and economics. Many Salisbury students never get the opportunity to travel farther than Corning or Redding so this was a life-altering opportunity for the students to see a big city, experience different cultures and to realize that there's more to the world than what they see and do in Red Bluff.
