Page 20 - Rutherford Weekly 828-248-1408 www.rutherfordweekly.com Thursday, January 7-January 13, 2016 MARGARET HUGHES GIBSON In the wee hours of Christmas night, God wrapped his loving arms around our beloved moth- er & wife, Margaret Lou Hughes Gibson. Left to cherish her mem- ory are her loving husband, James Worley Gibson, daughters Lu Juan Gibson & spouse, Robert Michalove, & Debra Gibson Haney & spouse, Larry Haney. The joy of her life was her only grandchild, James Alexander Haney. Margaret was born in Spartanburg, SC but soon moved to Forest City with her parents, Johnnie White & Lucile Gaston Hughes. She adored her parents & shared a special bond with them. She attended public schools & graduated from Cool Springs High School, where she met her sweet- heart of 64 years, Jimmy Gibson. She graduated from Furman College. Margaret worked for a few years as a Home-School Coordinator at Chase High School. Later, she worked with her husband at B.F. Goodrich Tire & Home Store. They later opened Hughes, Inc. Margaret was very friendly & social, & relished meeting & working with the public. She was an active & dedicated member of the First Baptist Church, volun- teering in the nursery for years. But her calling & focus was on raising her 2 daugh- ters, who richly benefited from her overwhelming love & guidance. After Jimmy Gibson was elected mayor of Forest City, she loved her role as "First Lady". The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Regency Hospice of South Carolina, who compassion- ately cared for her in her final days. Also, the staff at Summit Hills Assisted Living in Spartanburg showed her much love & support. Services for Margaret were private for immediate family. We ask that you lift our hearts with your prayers of gratitude for the life of God's faithful servant. In lieu of flowers, memo- rials contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Particularly in the latter part of her life, when people showed kindness to her, Margaret blessed them by saying they had "earned a star in their crown". With all her love & kindness, we are comforted in knowing Margaret is wearing her own heavenly crown of many, many stars. Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
