The Lion's Roar Indiana Delta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon • Depauw University FALL 2015 Indiana Delta Completes Chapter House Projects Alumni Support needed to mAintAin momentum T he Alumni Advisory Commission and Indiana Delta are making strides in several key areas this year. Recruitment is at the top of the list, and the active chapter is focused on building relationships with many prospective brothers. This process started early on when several of the officers and members met at the home of Lance DeNardin '86 to enjoy a great steak dinner and discuss a game plan. Currently, 25 members live in the chapter house and a few live out. We recruited 19 new brothers last year and hope to exceed that number during this year's recruitment. If all goes according to plan, the chapter house will be full. We obtained the services of Wayne McIntyre, Indiana Beta '64, who has an extensive background in sales. Wayne was instrumental in turning around the membership numbers, not only at Indiana Delta, but also at Indiana Sigma at Indiana State University. Wayne knows the branding that goes into the sale of a product, and SAE on the DePauw campus is no different in regard to the reputation of the chapter. He offers much-needed advice and counsel to the direction we should be going. Membership, scholastics, and philanthropy are the three main priorities the commission and chapter are focused on. We encourage alumni to make comments and/or step forward in any way they can to help our efforts. Many of you would be extremely proud of the men with the spirit and enthusiasm they exhibit on a daily basis. They are proud to wear the letters on campus. They show that the chapter is strong once again and the True Gentlemen experience is working. Both the active members and alumni have not been afraid to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. The outside of the chapter house looks great. New landscaping and lions are completed, and a flagpole and a permanent wall on the lawn will soon be installed prominently displaying our SAE letters. Thank you to Brother Lee Miller, Ohio Sigma '62, for bringing us the new lions. Lee recently stepped down from the F&H board from an Ohio chapter that had lost their charter. The uncompleted sign has a concrete base but will need support and assistance from the alumni. An estimated $5,000 is needed to finish this in brick and stone, complete with lighting. Examples of the letters to be displayed on the sign can be seen on page 2, along with the new landscaping. More than $8,000 has been spent so far on these improvements, with the majority of the monies coming from F&H. Dave Egger '05, Fred Fritz '81, John R. Mote, Ohio Epsilon '62, grandfather of Jackson Mote '16, Province Archon Darrell Brackney, Indiana Alpha '71, and myself matched contributions with F&H on the cost of the flagpole. On another note: the old lions might be up for auction soon in an effort to raise money for the new wall. Please let us know your thoughts on the subject. Thank you to Brother Egger, who also made a $375 contribution to the chapter's scholarship fund. As always, alumni support of all levels is appreciated. If anyone is interested, please contact me.
