A: I first became involved with the OSU Greek community when my youngest son, Cody, joined Pi Kappa Alpha. I joined the parents club and became known as the Kool-Aid mom. His friends were always welcome at the house to hang out and have a break from college. During Cody's freshman year, my husband unexpectedly passed away. That same year, the Gamma Phi Beta housemother was diagnosed with cancer and needed to take leave. I was asked to interview for the position and the rest is history. Q: What do you like about being a housemother? A: I love the energy and laughter in the atmosphere around the guys. It's wonderful knowing the bright futures ahead of the members and knowing I get to be a part of their journey. I particularly enjoy getting to watch the guys as they come in as freshman and see them grow into men. I see the changes in my own son and credit the values and gentlemanly manners he's developed to his being a member of the Greek community. Being a housemother is my chosen career. I cannot think of any other job that would make me as happy and fulfilled. Q: Have you always lived in Stillwater? A: I was born in Stillwater and lived here while my dad was a student at OSU. Then I moved to Lawton with my mother. While in Lawton, I married my husband and we moved to Kansas City. Eventually, we moved to northwest Missouri where we raised our family and my husband worked in aviation for 45 years. In 2005, my son Cody started his freshman year at OSU and that is when I began my journey with the Greek community here. Q: Do you have any other children or grandchildren? A: I have four children: Tad, Heather, Ashley, and Cody. My children are very driven and have careers ranging from an immigration attorney to corporate flight attendant to medical professions. I have eight grandchildren. Q: Is there a quote or ideal that you live by? A: "I'm at my best when I'm around people who are smarter than I am." The university atmosphere provides the perfect environment for me to live by this. Q: Do you have any interesting facts about yourself that we have not covered? A: I owned my own business for left-handed people for five years. I also worked in aviation and in several school districts.
