ALPHA EPSILON CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN MEMBERSHIP E ven though we continue to employ the Fraternity's Rush 365 program, fall recruitment remains a critical time for Alpha Epsilon. This year, our leadership team set a goal of recruiting at least 20, but no more than 25, high- quality individuals to pledge Sigma Chi. The cap of 25 was established as the Fraternity examined the class composition and capacity of our upperclassmen to conduct meaningful pledge training for new members. We are pleased to report that we have met our objective, with 20 new members committing to Sigma Chi this fall. We have high hopes for this class. As has been our policy, we conducted a "dry rush" again this summer and made bid selections based on receiving specific "buy-in" to the tenets of the Jordan Standard. Both of those elements have had a material impact on the quality and motivation of young men we elect to pledge. Moreover, we have made a strong effort to engage the parents of a prospective pledge to better inform the family of what we're all about. Scholarship remains a key qualifier as well. We want our young men to have a built-in tradition of success in the high school—or college—classroom before we bring them aboard. The new Alpha Epsilon pledge class is a diverse group. Thirteen are incoming freshmen; the remaining seven are sophomores. Interestingly, only 12 of the 20 come from Nebraska (the remaining eight are from out of state). We have new Husker pledges from California, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Texas. Most of our new Nebraska pledges continue to come from the more populous Lincoln and Omaha, Neb., areas, but we also made inroads into the western part of the state, pledging a young man from Imperial this year. We also have a set of twins and a few legacies as well. Quite a promising group of young men, all in all! We want to give a shout-out to the co-chairmen of the Recruitment Committee. Jack Glover '18 and Jake Kawamoto '17, both from Omaha, did a superb job in making this another successful recruitment for Alpha Epsilon. Remember, alumni, that Alpha Epsilon is a passionate adherent of Sigma Chi's Rush 365, which means we recruit qualified young men year round. It is never too late to provide a recommendation for membership to Recruitment Chairman Jake Kawamoto at (402) 689-7039. Like the Marines, we're looking for a few good men! Our new 2015 fall pledge class (first two rows) poses in front of proud brothers as we once again celebrate a successful recruitment.
