The defending 3AA state champ, the #2 seed in the West, knocked out the 15th seed with another strong defensive effort. This without one of their starting linebackers, Justin Foster, who sat out. Offensively, it was a big evening for Wide Receiver Tyshun Odom, who caught 9 passes for 184 yards. The Chargers got their fi rst score of the game in the 1st quarter when Odom caught a 42-yard rocket pass from backup QB - Cameron Peeler. Starting QB, Willie Green threw to a variety of wide outs and had over 230 yards of passing in the contest. Last but not least, on the ground, Tre Harbison rushed for 106 yards on 17 carries, with most of it coming in the second half. Harbison got two touchdowns in that second half as well. Crest will be home again in round two at Syd Bryson Stadium when they host Cutherbertson this week. The Chargers have now won 28 games in a row as they improved to 12-0 in 2015. KINGS MOUNTAIN MOUNTAINEERS: Kings Mountain's pass rush defense was the leading factor they were able to achieve their third straight shutout game against an opponent with their fi rst round playoff win last week. The #8 seed in the NC 3A West shutout North Henderson 30-0, as they improved to 10-2 for the season. The Mountaineers Defense only allowed 25 total rushing yards for N. Henderson for the entire game. After a scoreless fi rst quarter, Kings Mountain started catching fi re on offense and had a 16-0 lead at the half. KM Quaterback - Darren Burns had 132 yards through the air for his team, while Darian McClain was the leading rusher with over 100 yards. Fifty-fi ve additional yards of rushing came from J'Air McCluney, who fi nished the evening with two touchdowns. It was also another great performance by Jake Merchant on both sides of the football for his Mountaineers. Merchant had a 50 yard TD pass from Burns, as well as an interception that led to a 49 yard touchdown. The KM Defense, and being able to stop the run, will be most important, as KM will be on the road this Friday to #1 seed in the West, Freedom of Morganton. PLAYOFF EDITION PLAYOFF EDITION SHELBY GOLDEN LIONS: This year's number one overall seed in the 2-single A West, the Shelby Golden Lions, made it look easy, and without starting Quarterback Darquez Lee, demolishing West Wilkes 62-0. Junior Jwan "Truck" Sims started at quarterback for the Lions, allowing Lee to rest his injured leg that was suffered in the Crest game. Sims did well replacing the all time record breaking QB (Lee) by simply being able to make plays. Scoring in the fi rst half, included Receiver Antwan Wright on a slick 61 yard jet sweep, a 15 yard pass to Jayden Borders, and six yard run by Xavier Brooks. Special teams added to the 1st half scoring after CJ Ross blocked a punt and ran it into the Wilkes end zone. The halftime lead by Shelby was 34-0. The points continued to add up in the 2nd half when Calvin Camp got across the goal line on a 21 yard run, a 17 yard pass to Isiah Etchinson, and defensively - Demonte Poole scored by ripping the ball away from the Wilkes Quarterback (he ran 33 yards). Shelby is now 11-1 on the season, as the defend- ing state champ now turns their attention to Winston-Salem Carver, who comes to town this Friday for second round action.
