The Quartzsite Amateur Radio As- sociation operates and maintains its local radio repeater to serve the community in many ways. The ra- dio repeater supports ground and mobile radio operators, enables ra- dio operators to better support com- munity events, allows amateur radio operators to practice their readiness to support the community during disaster and delivers a reliable emer- gency communications system when other systems go down. In addition the association provides local training and testing for indi- viduals wanting to get their ama- teur radio license and also provides support for many different types of radio education programs for youth in Quartzsite. In fact the Associa- tion has partnered with Quartzsite in Motion and local schools to launch a series of ten new radio and space science projects in 2016 for Quartzsite youth that will kick off with an exciting "Community Radio Science Day" to be held January 13, 2016 at the Quartzsite Community Center. Watch for more news about this in upcoming editions of the Desert Messenger. Members of the local Radio Asso- ciation would like to pass on their thanks to the Quartzsite Communi- ty Thrift Store for making this pos- sible and we would encourage resi- dents to visit them at their location behind Silly Al's to express thanks for the organizations wonderful support of this important commu- nity resource.
