Epsilon Calls Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta • University of South Dakota • Fall 2015 G reetings from Vermillion! We hope you enjoy the revival of our beloved chapter newsletter, Epsilon Calls. We are doing something a little different by combining updates from the chapter, corporation board, and YOU! The corporation board has been hard at work keeping up with maintenance and staff needs at 214 North Plum Street. With an aging chapter house, we are expanding the corporation board as we continue to strategize on the long-term plan for growth and expansion. We have called 214 North Plum home for more than 80 years. Unfortunately, the chapter house is in severe disrepair. The small updates that were needed 20 years ago are now major eye- sores and we have been busy prioritizing expensive critical repairs. In the early 1980's, a brand-new kitchen greeted women. Today, the cupboard doors are falling off and the floor tiles are cracked. Outside, the framing around our large beautiful bay windows is crumbling. We all had a good laugh to hear the women are literally covering the walls and ceiling in the basement on skit night during formal recruitment to avoid showing the true state of the basement. Wooden paneling and exposed piping are apparently no longer in style! There is a lot of work to do and we are ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead. Corporation board members are communicating with Fraternity headquarters and researching costs for needed repairs and updates. We added three new corporation board members this summer and are looking for a few more alumnae volunteers with experience in home building or home repair to aid us in making educated decisions. Please let me know if you are interested in getting involved! We have also heard loud and clear from you that a stronger alumnae relations program is needed. With this, the corporation board is working alongside the chapter women and chapter advisory group to reconnect, increase communication, and promote alumnae events! We kicked off the year welcoming alumnae back to the chapter house with a great Dakota Days brunch before and after the parade on Saturday morning. Thank you to everyone who joined us! We hope to see even more alumnae at next year's Founders Day celebration on campus April 16, 2016. We would love to welcome you back to campus! Current members are ready to greet you and give you a tour. Let us know if you are planning a visit; we can make sure you get to see all of the updates on campus, in town, and, of course, our home at 214 North Plum Street. If you would like to reconnect, get involved, or visit, let us know!
