A Successful Pi Phi
Performance
Alabama Beta Proudly
Welcomes 131 New Sisters
O
nce again, the University of Alabama
had the largest recruitment in the nation
and welcomed more than 2,400 Potential New
Members to campus on August 8. Needless to say,
Alabama Beta was very busy, but we were lucky to
have some awesome visitors to assist us. Member
Services and Programming Director Shawn
Eagleburger from Pi Beta Phi Headquarters joined
us during Spirit Week and even led us through the
first seminar in our new Critical Conversations
program, Sincere Friendship. Region Four
Director Mary Beth Dykes, Alabama Gamma
'73 and Eileen Grigutis, Kentucky Beta '73 both
spent time with us during recruitment week. We
appreciate the ongoing support they continue to
give Alabama Beta, and we are so thankful for
their guidance!
Our first round of recruitment began with
Ice Water Teas, which was followed by our
second round, Philanthropy Day. Alabama Beta
continued our literacy theme, but updated it to
be "Oh the Places You'll Go with Pi Beta Phi."
The third round consisted of skit day, where we
performed our Arrow Airlines number. We had
more decorations this year than in years past,
which included a plane interior backdrop, a
lighted walkway, cloud and members dressed as
flight attendants and pilots. The week culminated
with preference night. The house was decorated
with lots of white to recreate Pi Phi Heaven, and
we welcomed New Members with our preference
ceremony.
Following a long week of hosting, singing and
meeting with so many incredible women, we
happily welcomed 131 angels to their new home
on Bid Day. We had a wonderful celebration
before the pledge class headed to Atlanta for a
New Member retreat at Six Flags. Special thanks
to all of our executive council who helped make
recruitment a success, including Vice President
of Membership Emily Wilson '12 and Directors
of Recruitment Kara Stultz '12 and Taylor
Dickinson '12. We also want to extend a special
thank-you to our amazing AAC members who
put in hours of hard work throughout the year and
during recruitment.
